Lillian Stack Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Barry Wilson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Ltd. on Feb. 18, 2026.
Lillian H. Stack, 90, of Collinsville, IL, passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at her home.

She was born April 6, 1935, in Arbyrd, MO, to the late Jesse and Mildred (nee McClearn) McWhorter. Lillian graduated from Granite City High School, Class of 1954. On February 27, 1954, she married the love of her life, James Stack, and together they shared nearly 72 years of marriage.

Lillian was a dedicated homemaker whose greatest joy was caring for her family. She was a faithful member of Calvary Life Church, where she found strength and fellowship. In retirement, she and Jim would go on daily walks, work in the garden, and attend church every Wednesday and Sunday. They shared many exciting adventures later in life, including trips to Europe and Alaska. She loved reading her Bible every morning, watching the birds from her middle bedroom, and entertaining her family and friends that would drop by daily. Lillian was a world class baker; her specialties included banana cake, German chocolate cake, and any type of cookie. Above all, Lillian treasured the time she spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald McWhorter and Jack McWhorter; a sister, Barbara Lindsay; and a granddaughter, Kimberly Stack.

She is survived by her beloved husband, James Stack; three sons, Gerald (Carole) Stack of Collinsville, IL, James (Donna) Stack of Alhambra, IL, and John (Sandy) Stack of Collinsville, IL; six grandchildren, Elizabeth (Garret) Daiber, Chrissy (Caleb) Caudle, Jacob (Bailey) Stack, Kaitlin (Roger) Nelson, Thomas Stack, and Robert Stack; ten great-grandchildren, Kimberly Nelson, Brantley Stack, Colton Caudle, Ella Nelson, Grace Daiber, Jace Stack, Cole Stack, Cooper Nelson, Cody Caudle, and Gunnar Daiber; a brother, Henry (Mary) McWhorter of Highland, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, February 20, 2026, at Barry Wilson Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery.

Lillian and her husband were the very first to welcome us after we moved in next door to them years ago. She was so kind and warm. I often went over to her house to visit with her or bring her baked goods because she made us yummy treats as well. She always talked to me about her children and grandkids and great grandkids with such love and pride. And she loved talking to me about the history of our homes and the neighborhood we live in from back whe they first moved here. I loved listening to her stories and loved it even more when I took my 1st Little baby over to meet her for the 1st time. Lillian adored her and always wanted to hold her. I have come to think of Lillian as a grandmother to me and my family and I'm so so very sad she's gone. Lillian I will miss you so badly but I know you are safe and eternally loved by all who knew you. May peace be with you and my deepest condolences to your husband and family.

Love Stacy, Brian, and Elara Bouse
