David Hall Obituary

David S. Hall, 62
1962 - 2025
Swampscott - It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of David S. Hall, known affectionately as "Hallsy," who left us on March 19, 2025, at 62 years old.
David was the cherished son of Jeanne Leger and the late Carl Hall. He was a loving brother to Darcy Hall Shaw and brother-in-law to David Shaw, but perhaps his most treasured role was that of devoted uncle to Madison Bassett. His love for his family knew no bounds, and his memory will live on in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to know him.
Born and raised in Swampscott, David attended both Swampscott High School and Bishop Fenwick High School, where he made his mark as an athlete and the life of the party. His proudest moment was while playing varsity hockey at Bishop Fenwick High School where he played in the state championship hockey game at The Boston Garden. David had a passion for youth sports, hockey, and fishing with friends and family on his family boat: The Raggtime. Where he made lots of fun memories which he carried throughout his life. In the summer of 1981, he traveled to the Midwest to play in a farm hockey league, a memory that remained a source of joy for him.
Tragically, in the summer of 1981, David's life changed forever. While taking a break from his job and going for a swim, he dove into the water, breaking his neck and fracturing his spinal cord, leaving him a quadriplegic. Despite this profound setback, David's spirit remained unbroken. With the unwavering love and support of his mother, Jeanne, he worked tirelessly through a year of rehabilitation at the Spinal Cord Injury Center(F5) at University Hospital in Boston.
David's resilience was evident as he completed his education. After finishing high school with Lynn/Beverly BootStraps, where he was awarded The Wall Street Journal Award for Excellence in his studies. He then attended North Shore Community College for two years before moving on to Tufts University, where he graduated with honors and received the Ellen C. Meyer Award. This is awarded to a senior who shows character in the face of adverse circumstance while earning a bachelor's degree. David's academic journey continued at Northeastern University Law School, where he earned his law degree in 1998, with his mother always by his side as his greatest supporter.
David's legal career began as a public defender at the Peabody Courthouse, where he dedicated himself to advocating for those in need. He also worked at The Massachusetts Office of Disability as a legal aide.
Though his professional accomplishments were impressive, David's true joy came from spending time with his family and friends. He was known for his kindness, humor, and strength-traits that inspired everyone around him. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. He leaves behind his aunt and uncles Richard Leger, Ernie Leger, and Deb Camack. He also leaves his cousins Chris Leger, Matt Leger, Jeff Leger, Sebastian Leger, Mark Leger, Jill Leger, Joanna Skrdlant, Betsy Mielcusny, and Rick Hall; and his very close friend Madison Cameron who meant the world to him.
In addition to his father, David is predeceased by his uncles Charlie "Gus" Hall, Michael Leger, Reverend Herbert J. Leger and Robert Leger, and his cousin Andrew Hall.
A wake will be held to honor David's memory on Wednesday, March 26th at Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple Street, Lynn from 4pm to 5:30pm. His funeral service will follow at 5:30pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Spinal Injury Association in David's name, a cause close to his heart.
David will be deeply missed, but his spirit, love, and determination will never be forgotten.

My deepest condolences to all who knew Halsey, especially his mom Jeanne, who enabled him to pursue his dreams in spite of his spinal injury. We played on John´s Lynnway Shell softball team together, and we had a game on the tragic day Halsey suffered his injury, a day I´ll never forget. One thing I´ll always remember about Dave is the indomitable spirit and good cheer he had regardless of his circumstances. Peace to all!

David, the consummate boy Nextdoor. So many fond memories from Redington Street. Backyard games, teasing over the fences. Enjoying every moment.

Jeanne, you won´t remember me but I always remembered what a wonderful and dedicated mother you were. I think you delivered newspapers in between picking up your son and taking him to all his appointments and schooling. God Bless you at this most difficult time. My heart goes out to you.
