Edward O'Leary Obituary

U.S. Army veteran, retired GE employeePEABODY-Edward J. O'Leary, 91, beloved husband of the late Dorothy (Maker) O'Leary, and a beloved companion of Shirley Oberacker, died Monday morning at the Kindred Hospital following a brief illness.Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late Arthur J. and Mary F. (Griffin) O'Leary. He was a lifelong resident of Peabody. He was honorably discharged from the Army after serving in World War II in Europe and the Philippines. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Leo Council 508 in Peabody.After 42 years of service he retired from the General Electric in 1972; he then became a member of the General Electric Retired Men's' Social Group, which met every Wednesday for lunch in a local restaurant.While working the night shift at General Electric, he built his own home where his family was raised and continues to reside.He enjoyed gardening, playing golf, traveling to Ireland and spending the winter in Florida with his good friends.Ed leaves his three children, Dr. Edward O'Leary and his wife Regina of Middleton, Kathleen O'Leary of Peabody, and Robert F. O'Leary and his wife Bonnie of Rowley; three grandchildren, Lauren K O'Leary of Malden, Veronica M. O'Leary and Robert F. O'Leary, Jr. of Rowley. He is survived by his sister Frances Howard of Beverly, and also his companion Shirley's three sons Larry Oberacker and his wife Sandy, Billy Oberacker and his wife Carol Ann, Wayne Oberacker and Cathy Oberacker, and Shirley's 11 grandchildren. He also leaves many in-laws, nieces, nephews and devoted friends. He was preceded in death by his brother Leo I. O'Leary and his sisters Ruth I. Frasca, Winifred Deschene, Mildred O'Leary and Margaret O'Leary.Service Information: Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather for a visitation on Wednesday from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Ann's Church, Peabody. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Memorial donations may be made to MGH Fund, Development Office, 165 Cambridge St., Suite 600, Boston, MA 02114-2792.
