Laurence Kelleher Obituary

Laurence M. Kelleher, 77
1947 - 2024
Swampscott, MA - Laurence M. Kelleher, 77, of Swampscott passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 surrounded by his loving family after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Martha (Cray) Kelleher with whom he shared 42 years of marriage. Born in Lynn, MA, Larry was the son of Leo A. Kelleher and Margaret (Sheehan) Kelleher. Larry had great memories of his childhood days being raised in West Lynn and the many friends he kept throughout his life. After graduating from Lynn English High School in 1965, Larry proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. After his service, Larry went to work at the Charlestown Navy Yard and then continued his government career in facilities management with the GSA in Boston and the IRS in Andover until his retirement.
Larry was the devoted father of Michael and Kevin Kelleher, both of Swampscott. Larry loved coaching them and their friends on the successful Little League, Senior Little League and Swampscott Freshman Baseball teams that he coached. Larry made each player feel valued with his special nicknames, his positive energy, and his emphasis on having fun. So many of his players still talk about the great experiences that they had playing for Coach Kelleher and the positive impact he made in their lives.
Larry was a gifted storyteller with a great sense of humor. He loved the holiday gatherings and traditions with many a story of his scary Halloween performances and spectacular Fourth of July celebrations. With a "Howdy Neighbor!" greeting to all he was the unofficial "mayor" of Outlook Road. Larry's greatest love was his family and home.
In addition to his wife, Martha, Larry leaves his sons Kevin Kelleher, and Michael Kelleher and his wife Emily, and his beloved granddaughters Claire and Elise; sisters Joan Sullivan of Lynn and Jane Mack of Tucson, AZ.; brother-in-law William Cray and his wife Donna of Jupiter, FL, sister-in-law Barbara Cray Chadbourne of Pittson, ME, his nieces and nephews Ann, Tom and Dave Marcou, Bill and Matt Sullivan, Jim Cray, Kimberly Cray Correa, and Laura Cray. He is predeceased by his sister Martha Lee Marcou, brother-in-law James Cray, and niece Maggie Sullivan. Larry also leaves his best friends Joe Nolan and Joe Capone.
Service Information: His funeral will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2024 from SOLIMINE FUNERAL HOME, 67 Ocean St. (Rt. 1A), Lynn, at 9a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 10a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, 174 Humphrey St., Swampscott followed by burial at Swampscott Cemetery. Visiting Hours will be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 from 4-8p.m.

I remember when his beautiful blue eyes and dynamic smile moved into our neighborhood on Jenness St. All the girls loved him. He was so handsome and sweet. He always seemed very happy to see, no matter who was saying, "Hello". His Dad was just as sweet and kind. Wonderful people.
My deepest condolences to his family. You had one of the "bests" in your family. His memory will always remain. RIP Larry. You will not be forgotten.

I grew up across the street from the Kelleher family. Although I was much younger than him Larry was one of my favorite neighbors. He was always smiling and friendly. My thoughts and prayers are with your family. Rest in peace Larry.

To the Kelleher family, please accept my sincere condolences. Had not seen Larry in some years since I moved to Maine. Ran into him and he called out cheerfully " hey Woofer Groofer" a nickname he gave me. I´ll always remember playing racquetball in Nahant, Maddie´s in Marblehead and all the great times with you and Joe Nolan. God bless you.

I worked with Larry at the IRS for 15 years. We worked together on many jobs and he was easy to get along with. He could be quite the comedian when he wanted and made time spent at work enjoyable. I will treasure the times we shared and the card games we played.
