Avid golfer, philanthropistMARBLEHEAD-Mr. Wayne D. Martin, age 69, of Marblehead, died suddenly in Ft. Myers, FL on Friday, April 4th. He leaves behind his wife and best friend of 44 years, Priscilla (Prince) Martin.Born in Marblehead, he was the son of the late James T. and Doris (Smethurst) Martin. He attended Marblehead Schools and was a graduate of Marblehead High School. Wayne served his country in the United States Coast Guard.He was a devoted member of the Philanthropic Lodge of Marblehead and the Past Master of the Wayfarer's Lodge. He was a life member of the Gerry 5 VFA of Marblehead, a member of the Board of Directors of the American Hantub Fire Engine Society, a member of the Marblehead Okos, a life member and executive committee member of the Newbury Protection Association and belonged to the Oddfellows. In the 70's and 80's, Wayne was a coach with the Marblehead Youth Marksmen Rifle Club. He coached shooters who went on to compete at the State and National level.Prior to his retirement, Wayne worked as a stock broker for W.E. Huton, the proprietor of Adam's Cabinet Shop, a contractor, carpenter, developer, and co-manager of the New Folk Trio and Garrison Brothers. Together, Wayne and Priscilla worked at the Eustis-Cornell Funeral Home, where they came to know many friends over the years.Wayne was an avid golfer, philanthropist, and loved life. He will be missed by many. In addition to Priscilla, Wayne is survived by his children, Wayne Martin Jr. and wife Donna, Dirk Martin, Todd Martin and fiancé Erica Gregory, and Janet Bray. He was the loving Grandfather of Natasha and her husband Alex Lamb. He was the brother of David Martin and his wife Ann, Roger Martin and his wife Glenna, and the brother-in-law of Nancy Johnson. He leaves his mother-in-law, Alice Prince and an aunt, Dorothy Smethurst. Also surviving Wayne are his nephews, Peter, Allen, David, Richard, and Matthew as well as his nieces, Diane, Jennifer, and Kimberly. He also leaves his great-nieces and nephews, many cousins, and his special friends, Stephen Wainwright and Brian Freeman. He was the brother of the late James T. Martin.Service Information: Relatives and Friends are kindly invited to attend a Funeral Service in St. Michael's Church, MARBLEHEAD, on Monday at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Waterside Cemetery. Memorial Visitation is in the Eustis-Cornell Funeral Home, 142 Elm St. MARBLEHEAD on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. At the family's request, please omit all flowers and kindly have gifts in Wayne's memory sent to the James T. and Wayne D.
