SAMUEL BARAJAS Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our beloved brother, Samuel Barajas of Calexico, who passed away on April 2, 2023. He was 77 years old. He was born in Abasolo, Guanajuato, Mexico, the first of eight siblings.
He worked as a machinist for 20 years. His love for cars and travel led him to pursue a career in transportation. He enjoyed working as a cross country truck driver, school bus driver, and charter bus driver. Samuel was a master mechanic, both professionally and personally.
His passion was restoring old cars, in particular 1940 Chevys. He could be seen cruising Calexico in his 1959 Willy Jeep or 1930 Ford Roadster with a rumble seat. He loved taking the family to sporting events, car shows, and various excursions. His nieces and nephews cherish their adventures to the water slides in Mexicali, the Rose Parade, and cruising Calexico Christmas lights with their Tio Sammy. He truly lived a giving life. He loved to travel and attended the 1968 Olympics in Mexico, the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, and in 2002, he was at Edison Field to see his beloved Anaheim Angels win the World Series.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Engracia and Juan Barajas; brother, Juan "Johnny Barajas; and sister, Bertha Barajas. Upon the passing of his parents, he along with his sisters, took responsibility for providing for his younger siblings.
He is survived by his siblings, Gloria Gallardo, Beatriz (Leo) Rodriguez, Josie (Daniel) Milan, Luis (Gloria) Barajas, and Silvia Barajas; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, whom he loved very much.
Services will be held Friday, April 21, 2023, at Our Lady of Guadalupe (Cristo Rey Hall) in El Centro, CA. Viewing from 9-11am, Rosary at 11am, Mass at 12pm. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in El Centro.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made in his name to the Bertha Barajas Scholarship or the Brown Bag Coalition.
