VERNA HALL Obituary

VERNA JEAN HALL

Jan. 24, 1942 Jan. 5, 2022

Verna Jean The Volleyball Queen Hall lived her very best life, and passed just shy of her 80th birthday, due to heart failure, non-Covid related.

Verna was born in Boyle Heights where she attended local schools and graduated from CAL State L.A. with a B.A. Art History, a teacher's credential, and was multilingual. She participated in the 1960's-70's LA art scene. She excelled at watercolors and other avant-garde mediums.

She taught art for the L.A. city schools for 10 years, mainly at Nightengale Jr. High School. In 1976 she met the son of one of her fellow teachers, George (Ace) Ainsworth. Sparks flew instantly and a summer romance suddenly becomes a lifetime of love forever. They married on New Year's Eve Day and had two sons: Sky Hall Ainsworth, born December 25, '77 and Adam Hall Ainsworth, born April 13, '80. She is survived by them, her husband, and three grandkids.

In 1977, both were offered contracts for Calipatria Schools. They moved and Ms. Hall became the Art Dept. of the Calipatria HS. In 1996, she started teaching art at Southwest HS, and finished her 37 year career there. She helped open the school which quickly became known for its excellent fine arts program.

Verna loved her husband and her sons, cooking, traveling to visit relatives, friends, and Art Museums. She went to Europe 3 times as she followed her passion to see the Great Art collections and Cathedrals of the World. Verna loved sports and was an avid gym-goer (up to a month before her death), soccer fan, and a total baseball (Padres) fan. She met players and managers, knew their names, who was doing well, or not! Her biggest joy was going to Arizona to see the pre-season games.

She challenged and inspired hundreds of her students. Numerous people in LA and IV have told her their careers in art began in her classroom. She will be deeply missed by her family and dozens, if not hundreds of friends, all over the world. Rest in Peace Dear.

A GoFundMe has been created for final expenses and to donate Art Supplies to Calipatria HS and Southwest HS, you can also donate art supplies to those schools. Services TBA, follow the website for details.

My deepest condolences to the family. Verna was such a sweet person, always interested in others, always ready with a listening ear. She was sunshine! We splashed around the pool together & talked about everything for many hours & the old water aerobics crew will miss her greatly!

Verna was an amazing art teacher. As a colleague, we shared students and often saw their artwork in progress. I loved hearing our kids say that she helped them see the world in a different way, that she brought out the best of their artistic ability, and that, while a "hard teacher", she always made sure that her students grew in their understanding of art and felt safe to explore their talent under her tutelage.

Verna's most important job was her family. Her two sons are amazing human beings--smart, witty, and caring. I loved teaching them.

Verna left the world a better place.

I am so sorry to hear about Ms. Hall's passing. What a great Lady she was. First knew her when I was a student at Calipatria HS and later worked with her as one of her Teachers Aide at Calipatria. Boy did she have alot of energy! Never a dull moment. Such talent she had and shared with hundreds of her students which brought her so much joy. I will never forget her fun and quirky ways. Prayers of comfort and peace for your family.

I will miss you dear friend
Verna was my friend, my colleague for 20 years at Calipatria High School, my neighbor for many of those years. She was an extraordinary teacher in any area she was assigned.... In addition to ART, she taught reading, math, and guided our A.S.B. leaders....and she did all that with inspiration, joy, passion, and
insightfulness....students enjoyed her projects and humor.
She always had a smile and ready laugh to brighten the moment.
She loved her boys beyond words
and adored her three grand babies! They were often the main part of our conversations. That
and BASEBALL.....she a Padres fan and me a Dodger fanatic made for some spirited banter!
I will miss her every day and remember her forever.
