Don and I were long-time friends from Southwest Oklahoma. We attended Cameron and Oklahoma State University together; received graduate training in the same general area of soil chemistry/fertility/plant nutrition;and worked as colleagues during his professional career. Don was always an enjoyable person and he made major contributions to the area of soil fertility research and extension. Our thoughts and prayers go to Deloris and family. He will be missed by all.

Don Howard.. Friend and co-worker since I began working in the Tn soil fertility program here in 1990. Don's research efforts led to an upgrading and verification of our cotton and wheat fertilizer recommendations. Don was always very helpful in supplying new research information that I could use in my Extension Soil Fertility meetings with producers and Ag Business groups all over Tennessee. As the new kid on the block, Don was always very encouraging to me in my program efforts as well as personally and for that I'm very grateful. My thoughts and prayers are with the Howard family and friends at this time.

Don and I were two of the many agronomy graduates of OSU during that era that went on to get advanced degrees and make our lives in other places. We have kept up with each other over the years. As a soil scientist in Kentucky and Don in Tennessee, we shared alot. I count it a privilege to have know Don and to have shared a small part of our lives together. He was hard working, a good thinker and a great man. With such a full life and a great family how could one ask for much more. I know the loss is great but the memories are sweet and he changed us all some and made this a better place because he came our way. May God bless you as you continue your lives. Don and I shared a graduate office at Auburn for two years. I followed him to Auburn from Oklahoma State University. Delores, I tried to call several times when I heard about Don, but couldn't reach you. Pat and I have your family in our prayers. I look forward to that time in the future when Don and I can continue our discussions about soil science. Bob Darst, Cumming, GA

I was deeply saddened to hear about Mr. Howard's passing. The first time I met Mr. and Mrs. Howard, they made us feel like special friends. I remember the time they came to watch Gracie and Kaydee play in the State Volleyball Tournament. I enjoyed sitting and listening to him talk. Mindy, I will be thinking and praying for you and your family. May the Lord surround you with His grace, comfort, and strength during this difficult time and the days to follow. I am here for you.
Love,

Bobby, Virginia, and Kaydee Shaffer
