Daniel DeWald Obituary

Daniel Louis DeWald

Daniel Louis DeWald, 53, of Lafayette passed away June 15 after a courageous 17 year battle with Hodgkin's Lymphoma.

Dan was born in Ft Wayne, and spent his youth in Huntington and graduated from Huntington North High School in 1979. He attended Saint Joseph's College and began his career at United Parcel Services in 1984 and was the Pre-Load Supervisor at UPS in Lafayette until his health prohibited. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lafayette.

Dan was passionate about working in his yard, and particularly on his lawn, and could frequently be seen riding his John Deere tractor with his sheepdogs, Maui and Domer by his side. He was a fervent and ever faithful supporter of Notre Dame Football and was on campus for game day whenever possible, and when at home, his Fighting Irish Flag flew proudly. Dan's larger than life personality and sense of humor were cherished by his family and friends. The camaraderie and support of his UPS family were of special significance and motivation in his life.

Survivors include his parents, Edwin and Harriet DeWald of Greenville, TN.; his brothers and sisters: Edwin DeWald, Jr. and wife Rachel of Fishers, Ellen and husband Darryl Schultz of Chesterton, Jennifer and husband Mike, and Thomas DeWald Sr. of Greeneville, TN. and a special friend and caregiver, Trula DeWald of Lafayette. Also surviving are nieces and nephews including Dominic, Gianna and Joseph DeWald of Fishers; Andrew and Brennan Hollowell of Greeneville, TN.; Thomas DeWald Jr. of Leesburg, Georgia and Kylee Grace DeWald of Greeneville, TN. He was preceded in death by grandparents John and Marie DeWald, and Clem and Geraldine Bowers.

Visitation will take place at Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, 1104 Columbia St., Lafayette on Wednesday June 18 from 1:00 PM until and a Celebration of Life Service at 3:00 PM Wednesday, Fr. Joshua T. Bennett officiating.
