Forrest Holland Obituary
Forrest D. Holland, 63, of Lafayette passed away Tuesday, August 6, at St. Elizabeth East. He was born on March 5, 1950 to Leslie and Virginia (Vail) Holland in Shumway, IL. Forrest graduated from Effingham High School and attended Cornell University on a math and basketball scholarship graduating with a bachelor's degree in math and later earning his master's degree in agricultural economics from Purdue University. He married Jeanne Deborah Percival in 1974 and had three children.
Forrest was a member of Evangelical Covenant Church in Lafayette and worked for Purdue University's State Utility Forecasting Group for over 30 years. He enjoyed science fiction, the St. Louis Cardinals, black jelly beans and witty humor. He was a kind-hearted man who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife Jeanne and his son Dale of Lafayette, two daughters Katie Russell (husband John) of Pittsburgh, PA and Jenny of Austin, TX, his parents Leslie and Virginia Holland of Effingham, IL, a brother Carl Holland of Sparta, IL, and two grandchildren, John and Mary Russell. He was preceded in death by his sisters Carol Holland and Sharon Westendorf (husband Allen).
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Friday, August 9, at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, August 10, at Evangelical Covenant Church, 3600 S. 9th Street. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made for the Welcome Counter (Forrest's Corner) at Evangelical Covenant Church or to Celebrating Brad: sweetforcertain.com - a foundation supporting cancer research and art scholarship. I just heard . I am so sorry to hear of this. He was a kind person as a child and remember the ping pong and all the times we spent at picnics and bible school. Oh the memories. Virginia, Dale and Carl, may God and his Angels comfort you at this time.

I just heard of Forrest's passing and am so saddened. I worked with Forrest as an outside SFUG contractor for more than 20 years and admired his professional accomplishments but particularly appreciated his integrity and gentlemanly demeanor. Forrest, to me, will always represent the best of the best professionally and personally. I did not meet his wife or children but hope they can take some comfort in the fact that I appreciated Forrest as the “best of the best” in every interaction. I missed him when he retired and I will continue to miss his insightful, gentle, and professional participation in an arena that is sometimes short of those wonderful “Forrest” qualities.

Jeanne & Family, I am so sorry for your loss. I will truly miss Forrest's humor. He was a gentle giant that never left home without his favorite hat. After he retired, he would always let me know when he was coming into the office, that meant that I was supposed to bake goodies for that day. He was a very special person.
