Scott Notary Obituary
Scott A. Notary, 23, of Lafayette, died Saturday November 16, 2013 in a house fire at his home in West Lafayette. He was born October 21, 1990, in Lafayette to David Notary (wife Sharon D'Amico Notary) and Margaret Favorite (husband Ed Lausch), all of Lafayette. Scott graduated from Lafayette Jefferson High School in 2009 and was weeks away from graduating from Purdue University in Building and Construction Management and starting his career in TN. Scott served as president of Purdue's student chapter of the Restoration Industry Association.
In high school, Scott played tennis and ran cross-country. He loved to fish and hunt and be outdoors in the woods or on the beach. Scott loved animals, especially his dog, Griffin, who perished with him in the fire. His good nature won him many friends and endeared him to all who knew him. Scott was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and volunteered for Jubilee Christmas and Habitat for Humanity.
Surviving along with his parents are his brother Charles Notary of West Lafayette, sister Grace Notary of Brooklyn, NY, stepbrothers Joshua Lausch of Houston, TX, and Matt Moore (partner Steven Mucci) of Raleigh, NC, stepsister Heather Jacobs (husband Robert) of Connersville, IN, grandparents Elizabeth Favorite of Mishawaka, IN, Don and Joyce Notary of South Bend, IN, and numerous loving aunts, uncles, and cousins. Scott was preceded in death by grandparents Roger Favorite, Catheryn and Ralph Lausch, and his cousin, Rebecca Kelch.
Visitation will be 5-8 PM Thursday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Friends will be received 1 hour prior to a 11:00 AM service on Friday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Rev. David Doane officiating. Those wishing to may contribute in Scott's name to the Almost Home Humane Society or the West Lafayette Fire Prevention Week Fund. I only knew Scott for this past semester and I thought he was the greatest guy. I am roommates with Victoria and he would always come over for dinner, parties or just to say hi. I always enjoyed his company and could see the love between him and Victoria. Vic and I would have many conversations about how great he was and that he was a catch and not to let him go...I am so sorry for your tragic loss. Scott was so genuine and wonderful and he will be missed by all who knew him. Lots of love and prayers are being sent to the whole family.

Scott was a guitar student of mine years back--couldn't forget that kid with such a bright personality. He always had a smile on his face and something witty to say. I ran into him when I was playing at Bluefin on Friday nights. I guess he had been living in an apartment upstairs and I told him I hoped the music didn't bother him too much--he said "no, just loved to sit up there and listen." That made my night, and from what I hear it sounds like he made many feel that way. I am so sorry for your loss. It is a great one but I will be wishing your family peace.

My son, Curt Studebaker, graduated from JHS two years ahead of Scott, but he ran cross country with him for the two years that their time at school overlapped. He is currently working overseas and was unable to come for the funeral, but he was very sorry to hear of Scott's death. He said that Scott was a great guy; very genuine and a lot of fun. It sounds like he was one of the truly nice people of this world, and I am so very sorry for your loss. My heart aches for you all; may you feel the love of God surround you as you grieve for this beautiful spirit.

I did not know Scott, my daughter Lexie Johnson, goes to Purdue and became good friends with Scott. Lexie called me very upset over Scott's death. She said she had just seen him a few hours before he went home that night. My heart breaks for your family. I can not imagine your pain. I will be praying for your family. I was a BCM student with Scott and we went through a lot of the same classes together. He was a joy to be in class with and was very kind. He always said hi to me and always made me feel welcome, for that I will always be grateful. He will be missed by all who he touched with his loving personality. I have known Scott since he was in 7th grade. The first thing I remember about him is his smile. He had an infectious smile and everyone around him did the same. From the first time I met Scott I knew this kid was special. Though distance made it tough to see each other, we were still able to keep in touch. I played tennis with Scott my freshman year at Jeff. While we weren't much more than teammates, I looked up to Scott with him being a senior on the team. I didn't know your son or you, but I know this incomprehensible grief. The only thing I can tell you is what my almost mother-in-law told me the day after I lost my 24 year-old son. (Forty years before she had lost her 31 year-old daughter.) As I was clenching my stomach and moaning in agony as I faced her, a tear ran down her face. She gently said, "It gets better." This was a wonderful woman whom I had seen laugh multiple times while we played cards and other family games. She had credibility. There was hope I might be like her someday.
I am so deeply sorry for you. Your son was a stunning and obviously brilliant boy. Though the grief will never go away completely, it gets better.
