CHARLESTON - Lilly May Chapman, 85, of Charleston, passed away at 8:35 p.m., Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at Willow Breeze Hospice House, Mattoon.
Funeral Services celebrating her life will be at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 26th, at the Barkley Funeral Chapel in Greenup, IL. Visitation for family and friends will be from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in the Hazel Dell Cemetery.
Lilly was born July 26, 1939, in Paris, the daughter of the late Herbert and Vallie (VanBuren) Thomas. She was one of four children. She married the love of her life, Norval Chapman, on July 5, 1968, in Charleston, and he preceded her in death on October 19, 2008.
Lilly was devoted to her family; her grandchildren were the apple of her eye. She loved traveling the world, camping, boating, thrift shopping, music jams, and adventures with her friends. Lilly will be remembered for her love for family, zest for life, and great friendship.
Lilly is survived by two sons, Rod (Beverly) Nees and Allan (Chris) Nees; 8 grandchildren, Michelle (Wesley) Sowell, Kyle (Chelsea) Nees, Coartney (CJ) Zimmerman, Brian (Kacey) Shobe, Brent (Courtney) Shobe, Bailey (Justin) Bear, Dawn McCallister and Brandi (Chad) Cooper; 17 great-grandchildren, Tiffany, Kennedy, Walker, Waylon, Isla, Maddox, Willa, Mackenzie, Mason, Mia, Lane, Leni, Beau, Dean, Leyanna, Kaliyah, and Jantze and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Lilly was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Ross Thomas, John Thomas, and Robert Thomas; stepchildren, Mickie Shobe and Richard Chapman; and special friend, Jim Hunsaker.
She was a 1957 graduate of Cumberland High School and retired from General Electric after 32 years of service.
