POCAHONTAS - On Dec. 3, 1973, a beautiful child, Amy Elizabeth Prichard, entered this world to Bill and Debbie Prichard at St. Joseph Hospital in Memphis. She went to heaven on Monday, April 18, 2022.
At birth, immediate challenges were looming. She was a special child, a little undersized, blind in her right eye and born with a debilitating, genetic condition.
At the young age of 21, Amy's liver and kidneys failed. In 1994, she was fortunate to get a liver transplant and after many months on dialysis, she received a kidney transplant.
Following that were many good years. Then after several years of anti-rejection drugs and steroids, both hips needed to be replaced and those were obtained in 2017.
After a couple more good years, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. In January of this year, the cancer had returned and metastasized.
Through it all, Amy was a cheerful and happy young lady who never met a stranger and was loved by everyone she touched.
Amy loved going to church and visiting with all her church family. She loved playing with her iPad, watching TV, going out to eat and visiting with her grandparents and all her uncles, aunts and cousins.
She was a junior member of the Garnet Girls Red Hats, as a Pink Hat.
She loved school starting at the age of 19 months at the Doni Martin Center, Pocahontas Public Schools, and later as an adult again at the Doni Martin Center. She loved her helper and special friend Pam Flanigan, who worked with her for many years.
She always had her wings and now she gets to use them.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Bill and Catherine Prichard, and her maternal grandparents, Raymond and Pat Thielemier.
She is survived by her mother and father, and many loving uncles, aunts and cousins.
We would like to thank all her doctors and nurses who cared for her along the way.
The service will be at 10 a.m. today, April 21, in St. Paul's Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Paul's Cemetery with the Rev. Stephen Elser officiating.
Pallbearers will be her cousins, Gina Gleason, Kyle Thielemier, Joey Radcliff, Jacob Callahan, Dustin Penn, Alyson Prichard, Cody Prichard and Shane Prichard.
Honorary pallbearers will be all her other cousins.
Visitation and rosary were Wednesday in the chapel of McNabb Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Doni Martin Center or St. Paul's Parish Life Center.
