BAY - Grady Rawden Timmons, 87, of Bay, passed from this life Sunday, June 4, 2023, at his home. Born in Fulton, Miss., Grady moved to Chicago as a young adult.
He worked for Brach Candies in Chicago, met his wife and started his family there. Grady moved his family to Bay in 1963 and worked several years for Singer in Trumann before moving to the Arkansas State University Physical Plant where he retired.
Grady was a member of Broadway Avenue Missionary Baptist Church in Bay and enjoyed fishing, attending the annual Mountain View Folk Festival and listening to Bluegrass music. Following his retirement from ASU, Grady began working with James McDole repairing appliances.
During his retirement, Grady regularly met friends at the Jonesboro fitness center where he was active with the SilverSneakers program. After the workout at the fitness center, they would meet their coffee-drinking buddies at McDonald's for fellowship and conversation.
He thoroughly enjoyed family reunions and spending time with all of his family, especially his granddaughter Donna and great-granddaughter Harleigh. Grady and Harleigh spent many hours entertaining each other as she grew up.
Grady was preceded in death by his parents, R.C. and Sula Holcomb Timmons; wife, Donna Ruth "Sue" Timmons, son, Jimmy Dale Timmons, four brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include two sons, Russell and wife Gaylene Timmons and Michael Timmons, all of Bay; a granddaughter, Donna Ann Timmons of Bay; a great-granddaughter, Harleigh Sanders of Bay; a brother, Billy Timmons of Bay; and two sisters, Diane Rawls and husband Larry of Bay and Betty Kuhel and husband Joe of Hernando, Miss.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Broadway Avenue Missionary Baptist Church in Bay with Pastor Rick Jensen officiating. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Visitation will precede the funeral service from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.
Pallbearers will include Sonny Timmons, Steven Lynn, Charlie Holt, Phillip Goldman, Marty Timmons and Elbert Bradford.
