Arthur Allen Obituary

Arthur G. Allen, 92, of Enfield, the loving husband of the late Dolores "Dee" (Brown) Allen, passed away peacefully Aug. 31, 2012, at home, after a short illness.

Art was born on Jan. 30, 1920, in the Hazardville section of Enfield, the son of the late George and Rena (Colvin) Allen. He attended Enfield Public Schools and graduated from AIC with a degree in chemical engineering. Art proudly served in the United States Army during World War II with the Ski Patrol. He was employed as a chemist at Emhart for a number of years before becoming co-owner of E.C. Allen and Sons, Inc. a hardware store in Hazardville, until his retirement at age 72. Art was an avid tennis player and fan of the game as well as enjoying walks in Powder Hollow Park and family pool parties. He was a longtime member of the Hazardville United Methodist Church and was the oldest member of The Enfield Society for the Detection of Thieves and Robbers.

Art leaves his four loving daughters, Deborah Caserta and her husband, Frank, of Portland, Diane Holmes and her husband, Gordon, of Westfield, Mass., Judith Allen-Storey and her partner, Gary Regester, of Woking, United Kingdom, and Suzanne Gallup and her husband, David, of East Longmeadow, Mass.; his loving son, Jonathan Allen and his wife, Joyce, of Enfield. He also will be missed by 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Arthur was predeceased by his son, Robert Allen and his brother, Donald Allen of Trumbull.

The family would like to thank Dr. George Donahue, Hospice, and Companions and Homemakers for their excellent compassion and care.

Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, from 3 to 6 p.m. with a funeral service at 6 p.m. at the Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield, CT 06082.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions in memory of Arthur may be made to the Hazardville United Methodist Church, 330 Hazard Ave., Enfield, CT 06082.
