Genevieve Jane Skowronek, 104 and a half, of Vernon, wife of the late Walter Skowronek, passed away Monday, September 25, 2023, at her home. She was born March 12, 1919, in Hartford, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Winiarz) Jakobot.
She spent most of her life in Vernon and when retired moved to Port Charlotte Florida. She had worked at Royal typewriter, Nelson Freightways, and as an executive secretary at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft. She enjoyed many hobbies which included sewing, knitting, crocheting and became a self-taught oil painter of landscapes and flowers. While living in Florida she was a volunteer at the Port Charlotte Cultural Center, where she crocheted baby layettes for charity and taught others her craft. At one time she was awarded volunteer of the month. She was an avid reader and enjoyed her home in Florida. After moving back to Connecticut, she continued her service and crocheted hundreds of hats, scarves and mittens for the needy in our area. Jane was an inquisitive lady who was constantly amazed at all the changes she had seen throughout her lifetime and especially enjoyed talking about current events. She had a dry sense of humor and could be stubborn at times and was well liked by all those who met her.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Marlene Wotecjko and her sister, Phyllis Zito and brothers, Frank and Alfonse Jakobot. She is survived by her sons, Leonard Skowronek and his partner Ali Bassett and Roger Skowronek of Florida. She is also survived by an extended family of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
