Lucy Sweeney Obituary
1942 - 2024
Lucy (Shea) Sweeney, 81 of Manchester, Connecticut, beloved wife of Atty. Joseph T. Sweeney for 56 years, unexpectedly passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2024, with her husband and each of her three sons by her side. She is survived by her husband; by her first son Michael J. Sweeney of North Branford, his wife Dawn Monde Sweeney, and their son Shane and daughter Jillian; by her second son Andrew T. Sweeney of Rockaway, NJ, his wife Jennifer Boudreau Sweeney and their son Jack; by her third son Patrick J. Sweeney of Manchester, his two daughters Evangeline and Clementine, and his son John Jeremiah; by her sister Kathy Shea Rende, her husband Pasquale, and her children Michele and Timothy; as well as many members of the Chicopee (MA) Shea family. She was born on May 15, 1942, on Chestnut Street in her beloved town of Manchester to Reta Curran Shea and Thomas C. Shea.
Lucy graduated from Holy Trinity High School in Hartford in 1960, from Eastern Connecticut State University in 1964, and later earned a master's degree from Central Connecticut State University. She enjoyed her career as a classroom teacher and later as a reading specialist in the Manchester, Andover, and Orange (CT) school districts.
Family and friends may call on the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 W. Center St., Manchester, on Thursday, January 11th, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 12th, at St. Bartholomew Church, 736 Middle Turnpike E, Manchester, at 10:30 a.m. Burial to follow at St. James Cemetery.

I was so sad to learn of Lucy´s recent passing. She was a vibrant force as past president of the Retired Teachers Association of Manchester. I met Lucy when we were in need of a president and she stepped up. I loved her enrhusiasm, generosity, and heartfelt smile.

It´s been a lot of years since you and I and Lucy stood at the altar of Saint Joseph´s church in New London to witness the wedding of your brother to my sister.
