Marilyn Rivers Obituary

Marilyn J. Rivers
Marilyn J. Rivers passed away on Monday, October 2, 2023, at the age of 72. She was surrounded by her family, in her home. Originally from Rocky Hill, Marilyn made Tolland her home for the past 37 years. She is predeceased by her parents, Charles and Kathryn (Roehm) Weldon.
Marilyn loved her family deeply and was the glue that held everyone together. She is survived by her loving husband, John Rivers. They met in 1978 working in the wire and cable industry. Though married for almost 41 years, she always joked he "had potential." Marilyn also leaves behind her daughter Amanda Rivers, her daughter Alison Rivers and son-in-law Jerrard Palamara, and her cherished 4-year-old granddaughter Lucia Palamara.
Marilyn is survived by her four sisters: Charlotte Powell (Tom Powell), Norma Miller (Keith Miller), Laurie Weldon (Annie Johnson), and Carol Stacy (Michael Stacy). Marilyn also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
Always a selfless caregiver, Marilyn ran her own home daycare for over a decade allowing her to be home with her daughters. She then returned to the wire and cable industry to work as a purchasing agent before retiring. She was a talented gardener and loved being outside watching birds. Marilyn loved reading and passed the joy of a good book and a cup of tea to her daughters. She went on almost daily walks around the neighborhood with her neighbor and friend, Emogene Cayward. Marilyn was a remarkably kind, generous person who was happiest with her family especially her dogs Misty, Amber, and Abbington. She filled every holiday, birthday party, special occasion, and even the average weekday with love and joy. We will always remember her love and the way she would light up when she was with her granddaughter.
All are welcome to attend memorial calling hours on Monday, October 9, 2023, from 4-7 p.m. at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road in South Windsor. Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Matthew Roman Catholic Church, 111 Tolland Green, Tolland. So sorry for the loss of Marilyn. I remember you both attending Jenna's wedding at the beach in Rehoboth and what a great time we all had. Prayers and peaceful thoughts going to each member of the Rivers' family.
