Matthew Thorne Obituary

Matthew "Matt" R. Thorne, age 33 of Somers, passed away unexpectedly Monday, June 9, 2014, following injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

He was born on Feb. 5, 1981, on Long Island, the son of Mel and Sue (Schultz) Thorne. Matt attended local schools and was a 1999 graduate from Somers High School. He was presently employed with Graphic West Packaging in Manchester. Matt had a great love for the outdoors and he was a true craftsman, especially when working on cars or welding, he also loved riding his motorcycle. He had a great passion for sports, especially golfing and baseball, and he was an avid New York Giants and New York Mets fan. Matt touched the lives of many, and he will be sorely missed by all his family and friends.

Besides his parents, he leaves three brothers, James Thorne and his wife, Kimberly, of Winterville, North Carolina, Andrew Thorne and his wife, Brittany, of Somers, and Melville Thorne Jr. of Stamford; a sister Sarabeth Campanelli and her husband, Nicholas, of Vernon; his loving nieces and nephew Beija, Dylan and Kailey Thorne; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Relatives and friends are asked to meet at All Saints Church, 25 School St., Somers, for a Mass of Christian Burial to be held in Matt's memory at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 14. Interment will follow in Somers Center Cemetery.

A visitation for Matt will be at Somers Funeral Home, 354 Main St., from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 13.

Memorial remembrances in Matt's memory may be made to the Connecticut Children's Medical Center, 282 Washington St., Hartford, CT 06106.
