Michael Carzello Obituary

Michael J. Carzello Sr., 79, a lifetime resident of Enfield, entered into his eternal rest on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008, at Hartford Hospital.

Born on Feb. 23, 1929, in Enfield, he was the son of the late Frank and Mary (DeMayo) Carzello. Prior to his retirement, Michael was employed in the construction industry and by the former Bigelow-Sanford Carpet Co. He attended St. Martha Church. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he proudly served his country during the Korean War. Michael was always there to lend a helping hand to his family and friends. In his leisure time, he enjoyed painting pictures, and he loved working in his yard. His greatest joy was his grandchildren and the time he spent with them.

Michael is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Joann (Johnson) Carzello; his children, Debra A. DiCola and her husband, Dan, of Enfield, Karen M. Carzello and her husband, Louis Grieco, of Broad Brook, Michael J. Carzello Jr. of Broad Brook, and Cynthia L. Tittarelli and her husband, Tony, of Enfield; his brothers, John, Frank, Gerald, and Joseph; his sisters, Frances, Clara, Hilda, Rosemarie, and Catherine; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, James.

Funeral services for Michael will be held on Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008, at noon at the Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Patrick King Street Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call on Michael's family prior to the services on Thursday morning from 11 a.m. to noon at the funeral home.

Memorial donations in Michael's memory may be made to the American Stroke Foundation, 5960 Dearborn St., Suite 100, Mission, KS 66202.

All my sympathy to the entire Carzello family.

Occasionally in this world someone touches my life and shows me why I do what I do. Mike did that and more during the all-too-brief time I was privileged to serve as his speech therapist during this past year. Although cruelly stripped of the ability to easily communicate, he found ways to reveal what it means to have been created in God's image. With a simple well-timed raised eyebrow, he could inject humor into a frustrating treatment session; through good days and bad, he was unfailingly compassionate and kind to others in his midst, and his inner strength, perseverance, determination and sheer grit kept him trying, trying, trying, to regain what he had lost. He was truly one of God's angels on earth. I will never forget him.

This man was the Greatest Grampa there ever was and ever will be. He was loved by so many people and made them all smile. We will miss you but know you are in a better place, walking with God. He is reunited with his mother and father and eventually with all of us as well. Until then Gramps I Love You!
