Lawrence "Pete" Otto Blunt 1947—20147
Lawrence "Pete" Otto Blunt, formerly of German Valley, passed away at the age of 69, on Monday, August 28, 2017, at the Wisconsin Veterans Home of Union Grove, WI, where he had been a resident for the past 1½ years. Lawrence was born October 25, 1947, in Freeport, IL to Ralph and Ilene (Miller) Blunt. He graduated from Winnebago High School in May 1966. Lawrence proudly served his country in the United States Army in Vietnam from 1967 to 1968, where he received the Bronze Star Medal. Lawrence was united in marriage to Ruth (Zier) Ross on October 12, 1990, in Freeport. Lawrence worked at Goodyear's Kelly Springfield from 1971 to 2004, when he retired. Lawrence is survived by his wife of 27 years, Ruth; one son, John Blunt (Cody, Kyle, Ryan) of Rockford, IL; two daughters, Penny (Larry) Forton (Walker and Brenden) of Sheboygan, WI, Lindsay (Kyle) Stanford of Kenosha, WI; two stepdaughters, Tanya (Trevor) Fleege (Caleb and Isaac) of Kenosha, and Shayna (Andy) Ross (Lily and Hunter) of Freeport. He is also survived by his mother, Ilene (Miller) Blunt of Freeport; two brothers, James and Gary Blunt; uncles, aunts, and many nieces and nephews, along with close friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Ralph Blunt. The family would like to thank the staff of the Veterans Home in Union Grove, WI for their compassionate care and support.
Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 1, 2017, at the United Methodist Church in German Valley. Family and friends may gather for a time of visitation from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Friday. Lawrence will be laid to rest at Oakland Cemetery & Mausoleum in Freeport, IL. Memorials will be donated to the Veterans Home.Online condolences can be shared at www.schwarzfh.com.
