James Timothy "Tim" Stuart
October 30, 1958 - March 3, 2024
Tim Stuart, a gifted attorney and musician, as well as a beloved brother, uncle, son, colleague, and friend, died after a short illness in Lincoln, Nebraska on March 3, 2024.
Tim was born on October 30, 1958, in Hastings, NE, to Lester R. Stuart and Lavon Kehoe Stuart, who worked at the Hastings Daily Tribune, and who fostered a love of reading, music, and politics in their four children. Tim was the third of four, loved fishing and liked to build things and tinker with them. He was known for saying things like, "I need a shoebox, a hammer, some string, some tape, some glue…" and a variety of other things to construct something amazing. He graduated from Lincoln Southeast High School in 1977 and earned a BA in English in 1983 from the University of Minnesota.
Tim worked as a legislative aide for US Representative Virginia Smith of Nebraska's third district from 1984-1991 and for her successor US Representative Bill Barrett from 1991-1994. Tim came back to Nebraska in 1994 and earned a JD from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Law in 1997. He was a lifetime fellow of the Nebraska Bar Association Foundation. Tim was hired by the Omaha Chamber of Commerce in 1999 and worked as their Legislative Counsel until his death.
Tim was a wonderful musician who played guitar with the Town Dogs, who frequently performed in Lincoln and Minneapolis. He was the perfect godfather to his niece and goddaughter Alice Bolin and a wonderful uncle to his nephews Anderson Stuart and Charlie and Tom Bolin. Tim loved working for the Omaha Chamber and loved his colleagues. He always spoke highly and enthusiastically of the organization and its employees. Tim had many good friends in Lincoln, Omaha, and Washington, DC. Tim loved literature and was an excellent writer who read widely. He was in love with space exploration. Tim was kind, thoughtful, and hilariously funny. He was a Husker fan who attended UNL football games for many years.
Tim was preceded in death by his parents, Les Stuart and LaVon Crosby, his stepfather Robert B. Crosby; and is survived by his siblings: Mary Stuart Bolin (Robert) and Michael C. Stuart of Lincoln, Frederick M. Stuart (Willo) of Chico, CA; aunt, Therese Kehoe of Omaha; and stepbrother, Robert M. Crosby of Traverse City, MI; nieces: Alice Bolin (Dan Hornsby) of Minneapolis, Molly Crosby Pelletiere and Kathy Crosby White of Kansas City, Ann Crosby and Jackie Crosby of Traverse City, MI, and Shari Smith of Papillion, NE; and nephews: Anderson Stuart of Chico, CA, Charles Bolin of Lincoln, and Thomas Bolin of Chicago, Doug Smith and Bob Smith of Omaha; nine great-nieces and nephews; and cousins including: Pat Bock (Jeb) and Kathy Kehoe of Omaha, Tony Bock and Jill Bock Gustwiller (Steve), Audrey and Monica Gustwiller.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, March 22, 2024, from 4:00 - 9:00 p.m., at the Lincoln Country Club.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the UNL College of Law.
