Daniel Thielen Obituary

RACINE - Surrounded by his loving family, Daniel P. Thielen, age 80, passed away Thursday, May 04, 2017 at his residence. Dan was born in Racine, January 3, 1937, son of the late Jerome and Mary (Nee: Novak) Thielen. He graduated with the "Class of 1955" from Wm. Horlick High School. Dan proudly served in the United States Navy and Airforce as Airman First Class. On June 25, 1960 he was united in marriage to Jean R. Peck. Dan was employed by J.I. Case Company for thirty-seven years, retiring in 1991. In retirement Dan worked for Kortendick’s Ace Hardware in the paint department and RPI as a parts driver/machine shop coordinator. Dan helped support Jean in her work as an artist. He accompanied her to art fairs throughout Wisconsin and Illinois. He was a master framer and mat cutter for all of Jean’s artwork. In his younger years he enjoyed fishing, playing softball, golfing, and also bowled for over forty years. He was a longtime active member of Sacred Catholic Church and Choir. He also sang with the Barbershop Church Singers and was a member of Local 180 Retirees. Above all he cherished time spent with his family. He will be dearly missed by his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Jean; his son, Dan (Amy) Thielen of Franksville; granddaughters, Courtney (Dan) VanderWielen and Caitlin Thielen of Racine and future great-grandchild “Baby V” to arrive in September; brothers and sisters, Lawrence Thielen, Nicholas (Marilynn) Thielen, Mary Anderson, Nancy (Jacob) Johnson, Patricia (Gayle) Davis, Joseph (Jackie) Thielen; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Floyd “Bucky” (Ruth) Peck, Jr., Judy (Buster) Smith, Mary Peck; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Richard Thielen, Rev. Jerome Thielen; brothers-in-law, Thomas Anderson and Mike Peck. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, May 11, 2017, 10:30 A.M. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 2201 Northwestern Avenue, with Rev. Ricardo Martín officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Wednesday at the funeral home from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. and Thursday at the church from 9:30 A.M. until time of Mass at 10:30 A.M. Private interment will be held at West Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Hospice Alliance, American Cancer Society or to Sacred Heart Catholic Church have been suggested by the family. I was very sadden to hear about DAN'S passing. My deepest Sympathy to the Family. I worked with Dan at the Case Parts Depot a few years. HE was a good person. He always had me smiling or laughing about something. He will missed.
