Ramon Garza Obituary

KENOSHA - Ramon Garza, 86, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 21, 2017, at Froedtert South-Kenosha Medical Center Campus, with his loving family by his side. Born in Cotulla, TX, on August 15, 1931, he was the son of the late Alejandro and Maria (Trevino) Garza. On October 11, 1955, Ramon married Jesusita Ynclan in Chicago, IL. Together they moved to Kenosha in 1956. He was a member at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. Ramon was a hard worker throughout his life. After retiring from the black top business, he continued to landscape in the summer and snow plow in the winter. In his spare time, he enjoyed cheering on his favorite Wisconsin sports teams; the Packers, Brewers and Badgers. He is survived by his wife, Jesusita; three daughters, Eva (Paul) Kirsch of Kenosha, Alma (Jeff) Barsuli of Pleasant Prairie, and Amanda (Rick) Andraschko of Kenosha; three sisters, Maria Luisa Carreon, Margarita Ramirez, and Vencha Rodriguez; three brothers, Alejandro (Maria Elena) Garza, Juan (Rosario) Garza, and Rafael (Vicki) Garza; five grandchildren, Vincent, Alex, Rebecca, Kyle, and Rachel; and one great grandchild, Luke. Ramon was preceded in death by two sisters, Aurora and Beatrice; and one brother, Manuel. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nursing staff on 6 Palmer for their compassionate care. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 27th, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 1919 54th Street, from 8:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at 10:00 a.m. Interment will take place at All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the church would be appreciated by the family.

Please accept our most sincere condolences on the passing of Ramon. I always had an admiration for Maverick as we would call him. Honest, hard working and loyal to his family, Ramon was an example to us as a man and father. As I told his brother,"there are those that are related to Ramon, and those that wished they were. RIP..

My brother Ramon was the fourth child born to Maria Trvevino y Fernandez de Garza and Alejandro Garza y Rubio. The first thing that comes to mind about my brother is that he loved to work. We spoke over the phone every Saturday at 6:30 AM sharp. Often during those conversations he would remark that, in reality, he had never worked a day in his life. He loved it so much that to him it was all play. He especially liked to figure out how he could get more done with less effort.

He was playful, but he always knew the relative value of things. One of my favorite stories about him involved work in his youth. One of our uncles asked him to help out at a local ranch putting up barbed wire fencing. Ramon went, but when the rancher advised him that the hourly rate would be ten cents an hour, he promptly found a place to take a nap and dosed off. When our uncle found him asleep, he gave Ramon a good chewing out; but, Ramon held his ground, I'll get more value out of sleeping one hour than working ten at that rate!, he argued.

He wasn't given to boasting; but when the Packers beat the Cowboys on the gridiron, he would find an opportunity to ask me, How did the Cowboys do last weekend? There would be a chuckle in his voice and, I'm sure, a twinkle in his eye. I looked for ways to get back at him; but, the Packers have had their way with the Cowboys of late.

From the humblest of beginnings, with no formal education, he forged a life that would be the envy of many. He lived the American dream. He owned his own house, his own cars and had his own landscaping business. And he loved his family; in this regard, my brother was truly blessed. I was always so proud of him; as he was of me. I will miss him dearly.
