Daniel Hinkes Obituary

Died peacefully at home November 16, 2004 in Sun City West, Arizona following a long struggle with diabetes. He was 71. Dan will be deeply missed by his dearly loved wife Judy (nee Kalton) and their ten children, Marcy (Jim) Dunlap, Anne (Dave) Wolfe, Laurie (Paul) Kirsch, Mary (Keith) Schermitzler, Dan Hinkes, Carrie (Steve) Jende, Julie (Jake) Schad, Peter, Molly and Sarah Hinkes. Dan is further survived by his brothers Tom (Sandy), Joe (Rosemary) and Jerry (Sylvia.) He also leaves his adoring grandchildren Meggie, Claire, Sarah, Sam & Ben Dunlap, Cassie, Leah, Becky and Abbie Wolfe, Josh and Joe Kirsch, Greta Schermitzler, Griffin, Brooke and Vivianne Jende, and Ellie and Riley Schad. He is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and M. Gertrude (nee Bolger) Hinkes and his in-laws, Don and Cecil Kalton. Dan and Judy were second generation owners of Geis Building Products of Brookfield. Dan was actively involved with the Metropolitan Builders Association and its associate advisory board. He was active in his parish, St. Dominic. Dan loved the northwoods and spent many retirement years with Judy in Manitowish Waters with winters in Arizona. Dan loved fishing for muskies with his children, grandchildren and his friends. He also loved the sunshine of Arizona and Marquette University basketball. Dan was also a veteran, having served in the Army in Korea for two years. In lieu of flowers memorials are welcomed to the Dan Hinkes Memorial for Diabetes Research at the WiCell Research Institute for Diabetes Research, 614 Walnut St, 13th Floor, Madison, WI 53726. Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 24 at 1:30 pm until Memorial Mass at 3:00 pm, both at St. Dominic Catholic Church, 18255 W Capitol Drive, Brookfield.
