Karl Schimpf Obituary

Schimpf, Rev. Karl D. The Rev. Karl D. Schimpf of Mequon, Wisconsin, was welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven on November 30, 2016, at the age of 74. Karl was born on September 30, 1942, son of Karl G.W. Schimpf and Margaret Louis (Morlock) in McKeesport, Pennsylvania. He attended Davis and Elkins College in West Virginia, and Earlham School of Religion in Indiana. Karl faithfully served three churches over 48 years of ministry: Mayfair Plymouth Church in Toledo, Ohio, from 1967-1974; First Congregational Church in Salt Lake City, Utah, from 1974-1983; and North Shore Congregational Church in Fox Point, Wisconsin, from 1983-2015. Karl was deeply rooted in the National Association of Congregational Churches and received the first ever scholarship from the Congregational Foundation for Theological Studies in 1964. Throughout his ministry, he served as a keynote speaker, prayer service leader, executive board member and in 1993, he was the moderator for National Association Meeting in Portland, Maine. Karl was also involved with Kiwanis International from 1983-2000. Karl was a Master Mason and joined the York Rite in Toledo, Ohio. He transferred his masonic membership to Milwaukee and was a member of Freemasons Lodge #363. In 1985, he became a 32 Degree Scottish Rite Mason in the Valley of Milwaukee, AASR, NMJ. He was coroneted a 33 Degree Mason and honorary member of the AASR, NMJ Supreme Council in 1996, and has served that organization as Grand Prior until his death. Karl was also a member of St. Wilfred Conclave, Red Cross of Constantine, serving as Sovereign in 2015. Karl is survived by the love of his life for 52 years, Dorothy Vene (Wolf) Schimpf, sons David (Becki), Mark (Shannon) and Chris. Grandchildren: K.C., Matthias, Sarah, Caitlin, Nathan, Noah, Lindsey, and Markie. Karl was preceded in death by his parents Karl G.W. Schimpf and Margaret Louise (Morlock) Schimpf, step-mother Genevieve (Kancer) Schimpf and brother-in-law Lynn Wolf. Karl loved Easter, bird watching, reading, travel with his wife-especially the holy lands of Israel, Door County and South Padre Island. He took great pride in supporting all of his grandchildren's events. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 6, from 4:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at Schmidt and Bartelt Funeral Home, 10280 N. Port Washington Road in Mequon. A Masonic Rose and Salt Ceremony will take place on Wednesday, December 7, at 12:30 p.m. at North Shore Congregational Church, 7330 North Santa Monica Boulevard, in Fox Point. This ceremony is open to the public. A true friend to everyone who knew him

I am saddened to hear of his passing. Even though it has been some time since it happened, I just heard the news. He was a great teacher and minister. Many times I still think of everything he taught during confirmation class. He was very much a part of my life from being my childhood minister, to praying for my premature baby, to baptising three of my children. I am grateful for having known him and his wonderful family. Prayers to Chris, who always treated me with kindness, and to Dottie. I will always cherish the blanket you gave Matthew after his Christening.

I still remember fondly my visit to Earlham Seminary, renewing my friendship with the upper classman of whom I thought so much. I remember his dating days with Dottie and his dealing with so many feelings, all of which, brought him to the joyful arrival of David Paul. I remember his almost-dancing embraces with the infant, smiling as only Karl could do, singing a made-up ditty, the words of which were simply "David Paul is ten feet tall!" I regret not having been able to make contact and surprise him with my having become ordained as a Lutheran pastor in 1976. Karl was a hero in my recollection of my years at D&E. I offer condolences to all who loved him and work through the sorrows that will be treated by God's eternal grace to us all.

Karl was a wonderful man, truly touched by the hand of God, and we are all better people having been around him. Such a tremendous loss for Dottie, the family, and all the families and individuals whose lives he touched in so many ways.
We will miss you, dear friend, but realize you are in a better place.
God bless,
Marks family

Karl was a wonderfully warm preacher, and a fan of good music in the church. He and Dottie were most kind to me when I served as occasional organist at North Shore Congregational Church.

Dottie and Family,
Please accept our sympathies at Karl's passing. He was a man with a true pastor's heart.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let light perpetual shine upon him. May his soul, and all the souls of the faithful departed through the mercies of God rest in peace and rise in glory!

Dottie, Dave, Mark & Chris and all of your families - I am so thankful for the time in ministry shared at North Shore and so sad to hear of Karl's death. You are loved from a far and are being prayed for as you make this difficult journey through grief. We are a soccer family and I think of your family as a guiding light as you journeyed through those younger years. Sending love to you as you remember a life well lived and a faithful servant.
