Shields was just starting out his life and it's a tragedy that his path in it was cut so short. I remember him putting in the extra time working in my classroom everyday so he could impress Ms. Fitch. He didn't have to come and work with me on advanced math - he did it because he wanted to show others' that he could (and, by extension, they could) master difficult concepts. He was a leader by nature and enjoyed working with and assisting younger kids with their lessons. Words cannot convey what his loss will mean to his family, friends and school. My personal prayers will be with his son and mother.
