Dear Burkert Family..My deepest condolences to all of you. I just found out today April 1, 2015 that Dr. Burkert passed away last May. I am so sorry to find this out. Dr. Burkert was my ocologist 10 years ago, and because of his wonderful care I am a 10 year Breast Cancer survivor this April 22, 2015. My treatment consisted of Herceptin and chemotherapy. I am alive today because of him. I know that he is an Angel in heaven and I thank God I chose Dr. Burkert as my physician. May God Bless his soul and may he rest in peace. Sincerely and sadly, Gail Rymkus-Wegner

Dr.Burkert was my and my husband's physician for nearly forty years. He was a real professional, a good doctor and a great human being! I will miss that kind of connection with a doctor. Our condolences to his family and close friends. We wish we had the opportunity to thank him and say good bye.

Dr. Burkert was always wonderful and friendly. He was my doctor in 1986 for cancer treatment and I have followed up with him since then. May he be smiling in heaven as there are many warm and loving thoughts of him

I just learned of Dr. Burkert's death and am so thankful someone let me know. He was wonderful to work with and gave me my start in oncology, a focus that lasted more than 30 years until I retired last year. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and with the thousands of patients whose lives he touched.

I was a patient of his beginning in 1975 and saw him last in June of 2013. He was very sincere and I never felt rushed and he took time to talk with me about my family. What a kind and generous man. Susan Muenster

"Dad" Burkert and his family turned to be a part of my family in 1988/89 when I was staying with them as one of the foreign exchange students they invited to their house and their lives!
I spent 10 of the most wonderful months of my live with them and I am truly grateful for their kindness and love they showed me!
"Dad" Burkert...you are terribly missed! I will always love you

Dr. Burkert was not only our caregiver for over 40 years, but also our friend. He was our wonderful, sensitive and compassionate, talented, and highly respected doctor; he also loved good humor! We will miss him so much. We put our lives in his hands for many years; he was our expert quarterback on all our health issues. We are deeply saddened but know he is in a better place. He will be most fondly remembered. -Ruth and Olaf Harken

His magnetic smile preceded his entry and exit from the cancer clinic. It didn't matter what the day held in store for him. He never rushed but sauntered and he could calm the stormiest of patient. He was often observed "chewing the fat", as he referred with his patiets. He was seated across from them with his legs crossed, leaning back in his chair. He never wanted to retire," what would I do?'he'd ask. God chose his retirement plan for him. We are some of the lucky ones to have had the privilege of working beside him, learning from him and loving him.

I feel that I lost a friend as well as an oncologist. Dr. Burkert and I talked about books, the economy, his trips to New York and Florida, his family and my health. Usually in that order. I always felt his genuine concern for me as a person and his warmth came I through at every visit. I will miss him .

I was so sorry to hear of Larry not being with us, any longer. I found out from a mutual patient that I referred to him 2 years ago. We used to chat on week-ends when we were both making rounds at the hospital. He was a gentle soul and a great teacher. He helped a lot of the patients that I referred to him. He will be greatly missed.

Dr. Burkert was a truly caring doctor as well as a great individual. He was my doctor since he started practicing and helped me through my cancer ordeal. He seemed to have the ability to put you at ease even in the worst situations. He will be truly missed.

Dr. Burkert was the most Gentle Man, and most certainly a Gentleman, that I had the pleasure of knowing and working with. He was both friend and physician. He was so intelligent yet so humble many never knew he was medically certified in hemotalogy, oncology, and as an internist. The Lord has called a truly great man home.
