Manuel de la Torre Obituary

de la Torre, Manuel Passed away peacefully with his loving daughter Lynn at his side on Sunday, April 24, 2016 at the age of 94 years. WWII veteran and longtime resident of Fox Point. Beloved husband for 54 years of the late Joan (nee Boretti) de la Torre. Loving father of Lynn de la Torre. Proud and loving grandfather of Ryan Gill (Karie Anderson), Jamie Gill, Carrie Gill and Stephanie Junker; great-grandfather of Bryanna, Caleb and Addison. Dear brother of the late Luis (Margaret) de la Torre. Godfather of Peter Starke and special friend of Anne Balderson. Further survived by a nephew, niece, other relatives and many dear friends. Manuel was the Golf Pro at Milwaukee Country Club for 45 years and the emeritus professional up until this past year. He had a true gift with having the ability to teach the game of golf to anyone who was willing to take on the challenge of the game. He has left an indelible mark in the world of golf, but his true legacy was his ability to connect with people and the relationships he created and fostered throughout his life. A celebration of Manuel's life will take place on Sunday, May 15, at 3:00 PM, at Milwaukee Country Club, 8000 N. Range Line Road, River Hills, 53217, (guests may begin arriving at 2:30), the celebration will continue as family greets friends following the service until 7:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Manuel's name may be made to Evans Scholars Foundation, 1 Briar Road, Golf, IL 60029 or Milwaukee Country Club Scholarship Foundation at Milwaukee Country Club.

Dad, I miss you as much today as the day you passed, maybe even more. You were such a gentle man, kind and loving. I miss our laughs together and our hugs. I miss everything about you. I do hope you´re at peace, with Mom, your parents, Louis and your many friends. I love you to the moon and back!

Its hard to believe its been three years since I lost you. The pain and grief has eased a little bit but the void in my heart and life is still very prominent. I love you and miss you so very much. Until we meet again, keep swinging, Dad!

Dad, this is a candle to my heart. There is a huge void in my life. I miss you so very, very much. You will always be with me in my heart and soul. I know you are golfing with Grandpa and all your special friends. I will carry your love with me until we meet again. I love you so very much. Love, your daughter.

I never met Manuel but read his book and golf is no longer a chore - it is a pleasure thanks to his insights. Manuel was definitely a person to be admired. A true role model for everyone. Rest in peace.

Warmest wishes, prayers & condolences to the family of this fine man. I only met him a couple of times, years ago, and was struck by how kind, attentive and overall what a true gentleman he was. Anyone who met, learned from him or knew him each has fond memories, surely, and can consider themselves lucky to have done so.

Blessings,
Kathy Latham Belfield

May Manuel rest in God's peace. Last summer I told Manuel that he was the best instructor I ever had. He smiled a wonderful smile and said: "Thank you."
