Robert Mickelson Obituary

Mickelson, Robert "Bob" Left us on Thursday, May 14, 2015 at the age of 90 years. Loving husband of Jacquin "Jackie" (nee Bacon) for 50 years. Devoted father of Craig (Carol) Mickelson, Jill Fragale, and step-son Brian Schmidt. Grandfather of Christopher, Lindsey, Andrew, and Dane. Further survived by other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Peter and Anna, 5 brothers, and 1 sister. Bob was a proud Navy WWII veteran, leaving high school to serve along side his four older brothers. After the war ended, he went back and completed high school and furthered his education graduating from UW-Milwaukee with his teaching degree. He taught in the MPS school system his whole career, even receiving his Master's degree for Guidance and Counseling. He always loved running into former students who thanked him for the encouragement to stay in school and advance their education. During Bob's free time he enjoyed doing many things and staying active. He was an avid golfer and often rising in the dark to be on the 1st tee at dawn. He loved bowling, racquetball, playing sheepshead, and was in a couple's bridge group. Among all of his adventures was his walleye fishing trips to Canada. He loved his family road trips to Yellowstone National Park, Biloxi, MS, New Orleans and visiting his children in Florida. After retiring, every winter Bob and Jackie visited many destinations including Hawaii, Mexico, Punta Cana, Belize and Jamaica. They even found time to enjoy a few cruises. Bob enjoyed all the local sports teams and was a lifelong Packers season ticket holder. In later years, Bob didn't miss a Badger game, Packer game, or golf tournament on TV. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him, including his kitty Samantha and African gray parrot that mimics his voice perfectly. Per Bob's wishes a private service for his family will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Robert's name to the charity of your choice are greatly appreciated. Please share your favorite memories of Bob on the online guestbook at www.jsonline.com.

June 1, 2015

Mr. Robert Mickelson was my 8th Grade teacher at La Follette Grade school on 9th and Ring Street during 1956 to 1957. He played a part in the entire classes character development. That school and Mr. Mickelson was an important part of my life.
