Ron was THE best teacher I have had at any point, K-12, trade school, technical college and university. Ron taught History, and his influence -- together with my lifelong love of History -- led to my History Minor. He was earning his Ph.D at the same time that I was earning my Bachelors. We ended up having seats next to each other for Brewers games. He was such an intelligent, caring, fun and special man. I have missed him, now, for a full decade. Thank for the opportunity to remember and laud him, again.

I was really hoping when I heard of this it was not him. He was a great professor. I have never really known any one personally to have died and this is terrible. Again a GREAT PROFESSOR

Ron...I always had the sense that you, my older brother, were special. But two incidents stand out to me. When I called you as President Obama was being declared the winner of that office, in '08, your first response was to congratulate me, as a way of expressing your delight, and hope. I realized, on that day, how much yiu had shaped who I am. Then when you were recently diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, a condition I have lived with for 21 years, you simply refused to give in and let it beat you down. You were a true believer. And, you were just plain good. You will forever be in my thoughts, big brother. You are loved.

Dear Pat,
I just now learned of Ron's passing and was so sorry to hear about it. I was sad when he left UWM, because of all the work he did for us here. But It was wonderful to read all the remembrances of his MATC students. Clearly he is still with us in spirit.
Best,

I am deeply saddened by his passing. Dr. Snyder inspired me to study history and politics. I took every course he taught at MATC. I am graduating from UWM in a few weeks, largely because of his inspiration. My thoughts are with his family. Thank you for all you've done Dr. Snyder, your indelible mark will not be forgotten .

To all of my dad's friends, students and colleague's-as you may imagine he was as fabulous, if not better, of a father as he was a professional and friend. His spirit lives on in all of us. Thank you for being a part of his life and your wonderful support in his passing. I am so proud to be his daughter and beyond lucky to have known him inside and out for 37 years. I only hope to be half as tremendous of a person as he is.

It's been at least 50 years since I have seen Ron. We were friends and AZA brothers in high school. Reading the entries from students and colleagues, I was pleased to see Ron remained the role model and friend he had been when I knew him. He is missed.

Dr. Snyder was perhaps one of the most influential people in my life. He inspired me to finish college. I took every History class he taught at MATC. I think he would be proud to know that I have kept all my syllabuses, my notebooks - filled from cover to cover with notes, my blue book exams – with his thoughtful comments and most importantly the fond, indelible memories of him and his passion for teaching. My deepest condolences to his family. I will always think of you when I pass by or stop by Hooligans!!!

To the family and friends of Dr. Ron Snyder
Dr. Snyder created a college experience for me that was so thrilling and entertaining that I will always remember him as a teacher. As a future educator, he has been one of the inspirations for me and so many others that I know and have met.
On campus, he is loved so deeply. At MATC West he was arguably one of the most well-known people. His personality and character was amazing. He will be deeply missed.

To the family, friends, and students of Dr. Ron Snyder,
The earth has lost its greatest educator. I feel truly blessed to have been his student several times; getting the chance to spend a small amount of time with him was an honor. He really made learning worthwhile! I will miss his fantastic lectures, brutal essay exams, subtle humor (especially the short pauses after he'd crack a joke that no one caught), and his simple smile and "Hello" as he'd pass you in the hallways. I looked forward to going to his class for years. Dr. Snyder was a gentle soul who touched so many lives. I can only imagine the deep loss his family and friends are feeling. God Bless you, Dr. Snyder.
With Love,

I was very saddened to hear of Ron's passing. He will be sorely missed by family, colleagues, students, friends, and all who have had the pleasure of knowing him. He was our neighbor when our children were young, and always a remembered friend after we all moved on. He added so much to any event we shared with him, especially the New Year's Eve parties. Always a witty and steady presence. My sincere condolences to his family.

To Dr. Snyder's family and friends,
I met Ron last summer when we took a class together. I thought he was wonderful -- he was charming and funny and he really brought alot of smiles to everyone in the class. We all became rather fond of him. I am so sorry to hear the news.

To Dr. Snyder's Family,
I had the honor to have Dr. Snyder every semester since I started at MATC. I took history as an elective and was so inspired by his teaching that I took everyone of his classes. I was supposed to have him this semester for the only class I had left to take that he taught. I had the ability to see him one more time before he left school. He is an inspiration and a true educator. I spent many nights sitting in the cafeteria talking with him and found so much wisdom in his words. I can't begin to explain how blessed I was to know Dr. Snyder. This news is absolutely devastating to me. I'm so sorry for your loss!
Dr. Snyder,
Don't worry, I still haven't allowed a burglar to take any of my syllabuses. :) Thank you for making a difference in my life. Thank you for always believing in me when sometimes I didn't believe in myself. You will be so missed.

I met Ron when he was acting General Manager of WUWM-FM, in the late 70s; he once wrote me a letter, formally thankng me for working a holiday shift; I was stunned. Never before or since has an employer's representative thanked me for doing my job. Ron was a great GM and a good man; though his tenure was brief I have never forgotten him; rest in peace.

Ron was one of the best friends I ever had and there was no one like him. He was my student, my colleague, and a dedicated teacher. Kind, intellectually honest, dedicated, humane, I never met anyone who combined his tolerance, his passion for teaching, his loyalty to his students and his friends. His passing leaves a void.

You've been a great friend and a true mensch, Ron. I cherish our years together at UW-Milwaukee, where your keen humor lightened many days. And the Brewers have lost their most loyal fan. We'll always have memories of home openers in the snow showers at County Stadium and the '82 World Series. See ya, buddy.

I am so saddened to learn of the death of my wonderful friend and mentor, Dr. Ronald Snyder. Ron loved history, and he loved to teach History. I took every class of his that I possibly could and always wished they wouldn't end. Dr. Snyder was a fascinating lecturer. Countless times, I would speak to students who were dreading having to take a History class; I would say, just wait a few weeks -- you're going to LOVE taking History with Dr. Snyder. I wish I could tell you how many persons I know who would seek me out and say-- "You're right! I never knew history could be this interesting and enjoyable. I've already signed up for another class next semester." They, like me, would find that the classes taught by Dr. Snyder would not only further their education, but their appreciation for America, for world history, for life itself and for the full experience of it. But understand-- he was a TOUGH teacher -- these weren't pussywillow classes ... every test was a long-form essay exam. That meant hours upon hours of work for Ron in grading those tests. He could've used multiple-choice, true-false computer graded tests. He was not the type to insult his students with such a test of knowledge. He wanted to know if you had learned of people and events in perspective, and could explain and appreciate their relative importance and particular relevance. I became Ron's friend after all that and learned of his and Pat's intense love of baseball. My wife and I enjoyed Brewers season tickets next to them, together with other people who loved Ron and Pat. We all sat together and had more fun than any of us deserved. I was honored to attend the graduation ceremony at which he earned his Ph.D., which was a goal he had worked very hard to achieve. Althouh he was duly proud, you had to extricate any words of pride from him. Ron Snyder was a humble and a modest man. What an incredible role model, mentor and friend! To those reading this, I encourage you to go to the UWM library and read some of his writing .. search the archives of the "Wisconsin Magazine of History." You'll read the words of a thoughtful, gentle, loving, funny man who loved his family and his beloved wife Pat, who loved learning, who loved teaching, who loved the great and the small stories of history, who loved his students, and who loved life. I love Ron Snyder. I always will. He convinced me to get back to college IN MY FORTIES and earn my degree. I will forever appreciate the impact he had on my life and the interest he took in my education. Dr. Snyder was my academic advisor. He was my friend. I already miss him terribly. I can hear his soft-spoken voice filled with patience, wisdom, urging and a very quick wit. He was, and he will always be a remarkable man. My deepest condolences to Pat and his children ... he loved his family with a strong, steady flame coupled with an ability to laugh and smile almost instantly at all the comical and crazy vagaries of day-to-day life. The sun simply is not shining as brightly over Milwaukee as I write this ... but in Heaven, I know that Ron is finally wrapped in an overabundance of warmth, light, comfort and true joy. Ron, your companionship, presence, intelligence, wit, commitment and quiet strength will be missed terribly. God Bless You, my dear, dear friend. I cannot believe that you're gone. - Andy Smith, Brookfield
