Sandra Kanekoa-Ho'opai Obituary

Kanekoa-Ho'opai, Sandra Lei "San" San passed away peacefully with her family and friends near on March 7, 2012, at the age of 45. Beloved wife of Adam Ho'opai for 27 years. Loving mother of three precious children Coty, Kyle and Kahealani Ho'opai. Cherished sister of Andrew (Laurie) Kanekoa and their children Andrew and Eric, and Casey (Heidi) Kanekoa and their daughter Kalei. Treasured niece of Fred Pieper and Steven Makovec. Preceded in death by her parents Fred and Luellen (nee Pieper) Kanekoa. Daughter-in-law of Cecilia and the late Clement Ho'opai and Elizabeth (Fred Bacio) Kaahahiwinui. Sister-in-law of Louis Ho'opai and his daughter Shania Ho'opai and Adrian (Keala) Ho'opai and their daughter Anuhea. Further survived by special Ohana Sara (Tyler) Traband, Marla (Scott) Weiss, Shari (Tom) Perry, Patricia (Clem) Avilla plus a vast and loving Ohana here on the Mainland and across Hawaii. Though she lived most of her life in Brookfield, Wisconsin, her heart remained on the sands and beaches of Hawaii. Sandy lived each day with laughter, sharp wit and the strength to move mountains that, at times, seemed insurmountable. She received the gift of life through a lung transplant that gave her five more years of joy and laughter with her children and family. Special thanks to Dr. Stephen Dolan, Jill Simaras, RN, Jen Savignac Metzner, RN and the caring, dedicated staff at Froedtert Hospital. Visitation with the family at the MAX A. SASS & SONS MISSION HILLS CHAPEL, on Saturday, March 24, 2012, from 2PM to 4PM. Eulogy service at 3:30PM. Private burial service at Highland Memorial Park. Celebration of Life to follow at Orchard Inn, N83 W12608 Old Orchard Road, Menomonee Falls. This will be in the Hawaiian style and everyone is encouraged to bring a dish to pass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either Fred Pieper or Steve Makovec 810 S. 123rd Street, West Allis, WI 53214 for the Ho'opai family.

Adam, Coty, Kyle, Kahea, Andrew, Casey, Uncles and family -- San meant the world to me. She truly was the best friend anyone could ever wish for. You know she had a light that shone from within. Her strength and courage was beyond measure. Though she left us way too soon, she is in our hearts always. I'm proud to be part of your Ohana.

My condolences to Sandy's family. I connected again with Sandy on Facebook after high school, and one thing I could easily sense from her was a woman's continuous fight and unbreakable desire to stay in this life a little longer for the love of family and friends..."Malama pono Akua", Sandy.
