David White Obituary

David Alan White died on August 29th 2012, far too soon at the age of 50. Born July 3rd,1962 to Eugene and Virginia White, he grew up in Bend Oregon with his three siblings and was able to take advantage of the many outdoor and small town activities that his home town offered. After graduating from Bend High School he attended college in Ashland for a year, but ultimately he became a self-made businessman. For many years he honed his retail chops working at PayLess Drug Stores in various Oregon cities from Bend to Warrenton until being promoted and moving to Juneau with the company in November of 1992. Here he made his home, with his wife Carla and his two children, Holly and Kyle. For the past 14 years he worked at Western Auto Marine, first as manager and ultimately partner. Besides work and family he spent many hours involved with organizations such as Ducks Unlimited, Alaska Outdoor Council, TSI, HoopTime and was a member of the NRA. He still managed to find time to follow his passions of hunting, fishing, cooking and supporting local youth sports.
David was a man who never met a stranger. Friends new and old were always welcomed with a hug, a smile and maybe even a joke, delivered with his amazing booming voice and distinctive laugh. He always had a positive outlook, his quick wit kept those around him on their toes. He was the family historian, because he never forgot anything. He was generous and loved by all. He was a family man through and through who loved supporting not only his own kids but all youth sports in the community. He and Carla were an incredible team. They were frequently called upon to spearhead fundraising and community events, making it appear effortless and fun.
There will be a memorial service on Tuesday September 4th at 5:30 pm at St Brendan's Episcopal Church. Mother Caroline Malseed will officiate. A celebration of David's life is being considered at a later date in Oregon. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any memorial donations be made to a trust being established for Holly and Kyle at Wells Fargo Bank. (Acct #5360824295)

Thinking always of Dave. He will be missed by everybody that knew him. He will always be watching over us. And will always be telling me how much the Yankees were paid to be able to play so good. We had some good times at Western Auto even when he was making fun of me. He will always have a special place in my heart. Hugs and Kisses to Carla and his Children.

I grew up with the Whites in Bend and got to watch Dave as he grew up, the youngest of 4 children. As a young man he was funny, kind and generous. I know that Gene and Ginny have welcomed him, just sorry it happened so soon. My condolences to all the family.

Our deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers go to David's wife Carla and his children Holly and Kyle, the Oglesby family and his dear friends. Having only met David years earlier he made such a strong impression of loving brother and Dad. He will be missed greatly. Although he is gone from those who love him, he is now in the presence of God and all the company of heaven. David may you rest in His eternal peace.

Dave was such a great friend. It isn't often when someone you meet through business makes such a strong impression. Right from the first moment we met I knew I liked him. I will miss the weekly phone calls, his infectious laugh, wonderful sense of humor and brutal honesty. Rest in peace my friend.

This is such a shock for us! What a void he has left in the community. We always looked forward to visiting with Dave because of his upbeat, humorous nature which each time left us feeling uplifted. Carla, we share your sorrow. We are praying that God's love and grace will surround you and your family
to help you through this very difficult time.

Dave will certainly be missed. This was a life well lived, and certainly too short. This man lived each day looking to find a way to make the world a better place. My heart goes out to his family.

I will forever think of Dave whenever I walk in the store, and he will be missed. I laugh when I remember how he always said "We love boat owners" because we brought him so much business. My response is that we brought him business because we loved him and his store in return. God rest you Dave, and peacefully.

The Shepards are all very sad about this loss. He will be missed but never forgotten. I am one of the lucky ones who knew David as a kid as well as an adult. Thinking of him and his wonderful family.

Dave's passing seems so unreal to me still. We have lost a great leader, father and an awesome character in Dave. The night prior to his death, I can remember one of the songs that played over the stores loud speakers. It was Billy Joel's "Only the Good Die Young". Things are a lot quieter in the store without Dave around. I'll miss his laugh, his jokes and his endless talking about his all time favorite football team, New Orleans Saints. Where he rests now, in the hands of our father, the Saints will win every game and every Superbowl. Wishing Dave only the best in the after life. We'll meet again someday.

We are sending our love, prayers, and heartfelt sympathy to the entire family. David is my youngest cousin and I have fond memories of all our visits to Bend and a special picture of David climbing a wagon wheel at Drake Park (the name I recall). Take care and have a beautiful celebration of David's all to short life. Carol and Don Hayes
