George J. Stevens Jr.

Stevens, George J., Jr., age 75, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2007. George was a simple man in a very complex way. He loved life and those around him. Family was always placed first in his life, then friends, then finally business. He was an entrepreneur; he loved sports and financially supported a number of different schools and teams, including both high school and college. He followed rodeo and barrel racing in particular. After attending college he became the state sales manager for the Gallo Wineries and was regional sales manager for the Renfield Importers of New York City. His real passion, however, was cooking. In 1963 he and his partner, Harvey Rosen, started the Lazy R Restaurants which they owned for over 30 years. George had numerous interests, most of which centered around food, cooking, food supplies, food service and the like. He employed many hundreds of people in and around Wichita and fed most of Wichita at one time or another. He loved restoring old cars and most anything else that needed fixing. He is survived by two daughters, Brandi Stevens of Leon, KS and Tara Stevens of Scottsdale, AZ; 2 grandchildren, Austin and Alexandria Puetz of Leon, KS. And great-granddaugher, Gracie. Trisagion and Funeral Service will be held 7:00 p.m, Sunday, November 18, at St. George Eastern Orthodox Christian Cathedral. Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 19, at Resthaven Cemetery. Memorials established with St. George Eastern Orthodox Christian Cathedral and Boys and Girls Club of Wichita.
