George was such a great man. I worked at Lazy R all through my high school years (early 80's); waiting on all the WSU football team, George giving them free meals to support WSU and the young men. I hadn't seen George sense; until three weeks ago, I ran into him at Sam's, he was there to get food for his grandson's football team (they are on a loosing streak and he was feeding them to up the moral). We talked for an hour in the isle; with him working on me to donate to the Butler Grizzly’s, as that was another team he liked to help. I really enjoyed reminiscing with him that hour, him telling me how proud he was of his grandson, his family, “his football teams”, the young people he affected. What a great man to leave such a good legacy, God bless you George Stevens and your family, may you rest in peace and your family always remember your love.

Brandi and Tara:
Your father George could be one ornery fellow in the restrauant business. I remember working for George at Brandi's Supper Club.
He knew how to throw a party and especially for the young people. George was always helping people-great community leader for WSU football team, and many other organizations!
In heaven, he must be telling St. Peter some of his favorite jokes.

Some of my greatest memories growing up in Wichita include George Stevens and of course the Lazy R. I feel fortunate that he was part of our life. I will miss him and his great laugh. My thoughts are with you Brandi, Tara and Mary Lou. I hope that your wonderful memories bring you comfort. It seems that every time my dad recalls the two of them, he laughs so hard he can't talk.

Three memories of George. First, going to the Lazy-R right after church on Sunday (the Broadway store)-he was like this big magical man! Second, my after confirmation party (First Presbyterian) was at the Broadway store. Thirdly, He gave me my first job (the e. Central store). All of my sisters worked for him. He is remembered by Me and my family this day. Peace and condolences to his family. Anyone got the recipe for that BBQ sauce?

George was one of a kind for sure. I remember having my 6th grade birthday party at the Lazy R on Central back in the mid 60's. It's now 40+ years later, I'm teaching 6th graders! I will always remember George's kindness over the years. Wichita has lost a legend and heaven has gained a great cook!

Brandi & Tara,
I had the pleasure to know your father through my father Bob Foster. My first job was at the Lazy R over 30 years ago. I remember your dad as a kind man with a big heart and a great sense of humor! I can remember him for a huge hug, smile and words of encouragement. He will be missed by many I am sure and by my dad immensely. Our prayers are with you and may your great memories be many.

Dear Brandi & Tara,
I'm so sorry George has passed. I cannot believe it. It seemed like just yesterday we were all in Scottsdale together. I can still hear your dad's voice and the way he'd talk and tell stories. He had such a presence about him. When I was with him in Scottsdale I remember thinking how good I felt, how comforted in his company. I had warm fuzzies. Again, I can still hear his voice. Oh he was such a dear. May you grow stronger and better with each passing day; I know George would want that.
Love,
Niki (Hershberger) Hall
