John Galleher Obituary

John Duane Galleher
March 21, 1945 - October 28, 2022
Wichita, Kansas - John Duane Galleher, 77, of Wichita, KS, peacefully passed away at his home on October 28, 2022, surrounded by loved ones, after a difficult battle with cancer. John was born on March 21, 1945, to John and Ruth Galleher in Wichita, KS. John was drafted at the age of 23, where he proudly served in the Army's 101st Airborne during the Vietnam War until December of 1968, when he was critically wounded. As a result, he was honorably discharged, and the Purple Heart was bestowed upon him. John worked in the aerospace industry for many years. John enjoyed working on his antique truck, helping family and friends fix anything that was broken, and participating in any and all motorcycle charity rides in the area; all with his beloved dog, Lucy, nipping at his feet. If you knew John, you'd know that he didn't go anywhere without her. John served as a Patriot Guard, was a member of the American Legion, and held the position of Treasurer for the Military Order of the Purple Heart (Wichita Chapter). John was predeceased by his parents, John and Ruth Galleher, his brothers, Martin, Donnie, Richard, and Lonny Galleher, and sister, Geneva Cummins. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Joy; faithful companion, Lucy Lou Galleher; his children, Lance Galleher, Daman (Tereasa) Galleher, and Lakisha (Duncan) Barnett, Shelly Rouse, Gary Matney, and Chet (Rio) Matney; Grandchildren, Ashlyn and Brendan Darnell; Kimrie, Michael, Aaron, and Jacob Rouse; Tanner, Kamryn, Hunter, Cody, Cecilia, and Jax Matney; eight great-grandchildren; Siblings, Joe (Jeanie) Galleher, Ruth (Don) Rowson, Terry Galleher, James Galleher, David (Jennifer) Galleher, Merrie (Bud) Sparks; and many nieces and nephews. Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Military Order of the Purple Heart. Donations can be mailed to Home Bank & Trust- West 10421 W. Central Ave. Wichita, KS 67212. Please add in the memo field "In memorial of John Galleher".
