Kenneth Brasted Obituary

Kenneth Brasted, II
August 15, 1935 - May 7, 2022
Wichita, Kansas - Kenneth Parker Brasted II, 86, former president of Mid Kansas Federal Savings & Loan, died Saturday May 7, 2022. A private service for the family was held.
Ken was born August 15, 1935 in Wichita, KS to Kenneth P. and Lulu (Humphrey) Brasted. His first birthday celebration was held at the family cabin in Colorado. He graduated from Wichita High School East in 1953. He earned a bachelor's of economics from Dartmouth College (Go Big Green!) in 1957. After college, Ken proudly served in the US Army in the 1st Cavalry Division in Korea on the 38th parallel as 1st Lieutenant from 1958-1959. After returning from Korea, he attended The Wharton School at University of Pennsylvania, where he earned his MBA in 1962.
Ken met his adored wife, Sherrie, at Starkist Tuna on Terminal Island, CA, where they both worked. They were married in Pasadena, CA in 1963, and enjoyed almost 59 years of a wonderful marriage.
Ken and Sherrie moved to Wichita, where he became the Executive Vice President of Mid Kansas Federal Savings & Loan, which was founded by his grandfather. He worked alongside his two brothers, David and Skip. He served as bank president until 1990. He went on to become a financial planner, and worked for First Securities, Morgan Stanley, Wachovia, and UBS. He retired in 2009.
Ken was involved in numerous community organizations and philanthropic associations throughout his life. He served as the chairman of the Wichita Area Chamber of Commerce in 1979, and as the chairman of the Kansas Chamber of Commerce in 1981. He co- founded the Wagon Masters, and served as its chairman from 1969-1977. He also served as chairman of KPTS Channel 8 from 1969-1971.
Ken enjoyed traveling with Sherrie to many countries and sunny locales, particularly Palm Springs and Hawaii. He was an avid golfer…three hole-in-ones! Also played tennis and loved to snow ski and scuba dive. He was a lifelong jazz music fan.
Ken was an extremely kind and generous man and was devoted to his family. Sherrie was the love of his life, and always his number one priority. He will be deeply missed.
Preceded in death by his father, Kenneth P. Brasted Sr.; mother, Lulu (Humphrey) Brasted; and brother, David H. Brasted.
Survived by his wife, Sherrie Brasted; son, Kenneth P. Brasted III of Puerto Aventuras, Mexico; daughter Amy Holt (John) of North Bend, WA; brother, Skip Brasted, of Wichita; granddaughters, Lindsey Brasted and Taylor Brasted.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to KPTS Channel 8, 8710 E. 32nd St. N., Wichita, KS 67226.

So sorry to read about this. Ken was one of the kindest men I've ever known. He was on the board of the Wichitan magazine, and always offered sage advice. My heart goes out to Sherrie and the family. I will remember the great old days in Wichita in the late '70s and '80s when the community was thriving, thanks to men like Ken Brasted. R.I.P.

Rest Kenneth, until you hear at dawn, the low, clear reveille of God. Thank you for your service to this nation. U.S. Army.

Our late father enjoyed his conversations with Mr Brasted on many an occasion, discussing the ups and downs of the economy. Our thoughts and prayers are with his beloved family. May the memories that linger be those of joy and laughter.
