Weaping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning. There are no words that I can say to describe Michael Vann. I remember the first time I encountered Michael, and still today I can remember those eyes and that broad smile. But what I miss the most is the encouraging words he would always have at the right time. He could make you smile even when you didnt want to, and he would always make me believe in myself. I will always miss him but I will never forget him.

Over the past year, I have found myself missing my friend, and wishing I could call to share a special victory or accomplishment. I just recently deleted your phone number from my cell, thinking that just maybe the pain would be less. To Michael's family and co-workers, I am so sorry to learn of your loss. I went to Mortuary School with Michael back in the 1980's in Kansas City. He was obviously a young man who loved his family and the life God had given him here. Michael helped my family and I through my Mother passing in 1999, finding my Brother dead in 2001, and the passing of my Father in 2003. He took my Father all the way to Quitmen TX, to his final resting place. That I will never forget. My family and I will miss him. But I know that he is with our Father in heaven looking down on us. To the Vann family, I am truly sorry for your loss and I can relate to your pain. My sister's service (June Simon)was the first service at Vann's new location. Even though my family was still going through, the Vann family (funeral staff) was still supportive to our needs and for that we are forever greatful. We may not understand why all of this came about but God knows everything and continue to let him work it out. Mike always had a positive attitude. Remembering back to 2/11/06 at about 8AM, Myself and Firefighter Chaffin (SQUAD 12) had worked thru the night at the grass fire in Burton KS. That early morning I was tired and just ready to get back to Wichita when Capt. Vann and his crew showed up to relieve our crews. He had his smile on and looked eager to get out there and do his part in stomping out the grass fires.
Michael and his family will be in our prayers.

In 1999, I visited Vann-Gettis Funeral Services to make arrangements for my dear aunt. I met with Michael Vann, a consummate professional who was patient, kind and compassionate. He refused to discuss finances until I was comfortable with the arrangements I had made. I am forever grateful and thankful for the services provided by Michael Vann, Doug Gettis and the staff from Vann-Gettis. My prayer is that God will return favor on the Vann family and shower you with condolences, comfort, peace, strength and hope for the days ahead. His grace is sufficient to see you through.

If I may, I wish to share a scripture from the Book of Mormon, which has brought me great joy and happiness. In Alma chapter 40 verses 11 and 12-----"Now, concerning the state of the soul between death and the resurrection-behold it has been made known unto me by an angel, that the spirits of all men, as soon as they are departed from this mortal body, yea, the spirits of all men, whether they be good or evil, are taken home to that God who gave them life.
And then shall it come to pass that the spirits of those who are righteous are received into a state of happiness, which is called paradise, a state of rest, a state of peace, where they shall rest from all troubles and from all care and sorrow."
May the Spirit be with you as you bid a temporary farewell to a good man this weekend and in the weeks and months to come.
