Tomar Hernandez Obituary

Hernandez, Tomar Enses "TJ," 30, passed away from complications resulting from congestive heart failure and pneumonia on January 9 at Via Christi Regional Medical Center St. Francis. TJ was born in Wichita, KS on August 18, 1976. He graduated from Bishop Carroll Catholic High School in 1994 and received a B.A. in Communications, Broadcasting & Journalism from Ft. Hays State University in 1999. TJ was an accomplished athlete, winning the title of Mr. Biddy Basketball in his youth, as well as holding the title of Wichita City League Jr. Golf Champion at the age of 16. He went on to play varsity golf for both Bishop Carroll and Ft. Hays State. TJ's greatest loves were his precious 2-year-old son, Isaac, all sports, poker and milk! He was known for his practical jokes and was instantly liked by everyone he met. His contagious smile, big heart and magnetic personality will be dearly missed. TJ was employed as a salesman for Brandon Steven Motors. Prior to his career in sales, he served as a photojournalist for KSN and as a producer for Cox Communications. TJ won several prestigious awards for his work as a photojournalist. TJ was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Hernandez. He is lovingly remembered by son, Isaac; mother and step-father Carol and Dick Chance; partner Julie Balderas; half-sister Lisa (Jeffrey) Akin; step-sister Amie (Alan) Green; step-brothers Mike (Mindi) Chance and John Chance; niece Maya Mikity; nephews Jeffrey, Justin and Jacob Akin; and grandparents Marge and Harold Chance, Tommy Jay and Pauline Jay. He is further survived by other relatives and many friends. Services were held Friday at 1 p.m., both at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Wichita. Special thanks go out to the entire staff at Via Christi Regional Medical Center St. Francis CICU, Dr. Hussam Farhoud and the staff at Cypress Heart, Father Billinger at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, and all of our friends and family who supported us during this difficult time. Those who desire may make Memorial Donations in memory of TJ to the American Heart Association. Donations can be sent in care of Resthaven Mortuary and Cemetery, 11800 W. Highway 54, Wichita, KS 67209.

The Chance Family,

I have always loved the following poem...

Beyond Life’s Gateway

There’s an open gate at the end of the road. Through which each must go alone, and there, in a light we cannot see, our Father claims His own...Beyond the gate your loved one finds happiness and rest, and there is comfort in the thought that a loving God knows best.

You are in our thoughts and prayers.

With Our Deepest Sympathy,
Lorie Shaw's Family (nee Robinson)

My deepest sympathies to all. Words cannot describe the pain we feel. I was in shock when I received the news of the loss of my newphew.
I remember when Tomar was just a baby he and my daughter Leeshawn were very close in age would play together. After I moved to California I didn't get a chance to see him as often. When I did see him last he grew up to be a handsome young man he looked so much like my brother Jerry his dad.

May he rest in peace! Our prayers are with all of you and the family.
Lisa please keep in touch!

Love always, his Aunt Victoria in California and cousins Leeshawn, Danielle, Melecia and America

We ( my wife and I) want to express our sympathy to your family. While TJ was a salesman at Saturn West last March, we bought a car from him, and were very impressed with his professionalism. He was the real deal and we really enjoyed visiting with him. In his office there, one could tell that he was a family man who cherished his family, through photos he had on the wall.
Even though that we do not know the rest of his family,we would like to say we will be thinking of you.

Carol, Dick, Julie and family,
TJ was an awesome guy, personally and professionally. Everyone I know that knew TJ enjoyed him tremendously. I always thought of him as the little brother I never had, as well as a best friend. No matter how mad I wanted to get at him for doing something silly, I couldn't. I choose to believe he is in a better place now. That's how I will remember him in my thoughts and prayers. He was one of a kind. May God bless your family and if you need anything, please call.
