ALAN FEINGOLD Obituary

Alan B. Feingold, 68, died Feb 7, 2011 while spending time in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Alan was born March 23, 1942. He grew up in Kansas City, graduated from Shawnee Mission East High School in 1960, and began his college years at the University of Missouri. While he showed artistic ability from a very young age, he developed a strong interest in architecture while at MU. After his sophomore year, he transferred to the University of Oklahoma to continue his studies and earn his Bachelor of Architecture. After working at Fullerton-Carey- Oman Architects for five years, he opened his own firm, Feingold Associates Architecture and Design. He started his business in 1971 and as Alan's practice grew, he moved to the historic Uptown Theater Building, where he renovated the second floor space and doubled his staff. He was a skilled and innovative architect with a flair for contemporary design and enjoyed a long and successful career, designing many wonderful buildings, theaters, shopping centers, retail stores and fabulous homes in and around Kansas City, and all across the United States. Alan loved music, theater and especially the work of Stephen Sondheim. In 1981, to celebrate the opening of his new office space, he produced and directed a performance of Stephen Sondheim music at the Uptown Theater, inviting 600 friends and work associates. His idea of a good party was to invite a well-known and gifted singer to perform for his friends, which he did on numerous occasions. While Alan possessed talent, intelligence and a delightfully wry and witty sense of humor, his finest quality was his pure and loving heart. He was a man who loved freely and unconditionally and showered that love upon his family and friends. Alan was born to Daniel and Helen Feingold in Kansas City, Missouri. He is survived by his sisters, Marilyn Higgins (Ron) and Beverly Barnes; nieces Lisa Biederman, Jodi Gagnon (Marty), Kelley Wengler (Jason); nephews Barton Hechtman (Carrie) and Mark Barnes (Kim); numerous great nephews and great nieces; his very special cousin, Phillip Feingold; many other cousins and a wealth of wonderful friends. Special thanks to Arnie Woker and Joyce Long for being his devoted and longtime business associates. Memorial services will be held at a later date. No flowers please; donations may be sent to a charity of your choice or Mayo Clinic, Department of Development Amyloidosis Research 200 First Street SW Rochester, MN 55905

I travel past the Uptown each day and without fail the memories of business and youth come back to me. Alan was a mentor of sorts, or as much as one could be to a customer. He taught me wonderful lessons in dealing with individuals that most often have a completely divergent view of the envisioned project. His wit, wisdom and charm will always be remembered.

Alan was an absolutely wonderful person. My father worked with him for many years, and I have fond memories of spending time at my dad's office with Alan when I was younger. He was caring and supportive of my family, which I always appreciated very much. He was a great person and I know that he will be missed by all.

I remember Alan working for my father (Bill Fullerton)when I subbed in for secretary duty down at the office. He was a wonderful architect and fun person to be around. My father was proud to have known him and was always interested in what projects Alan was doing. My condolences to his family. I will pray for your peace and comfort at this time of your loss.

To Alan, yedid nefesh!

Alan was the most fascinating, brilliant man I have ever known. I am so blessed to have had the opportunity to get to know him and spend time with him. Our 30 year friendship enriched my life in so many ways. He will be greatly missed.
