He attended Christ the King Catholic Grade School and attended Rockhurst High School, where he excelled at both baseball and football before graduating in 1957. He had an offer to play professional baseball for the Philadelphia Phillies, but turned this down to work in the family business. Greg attended Notre Dame University for two years and then graduated from Rockhurst College in 1963. Greg grew up in the trucking business, working for his father's company, Orscheln Bros. Truck Line, before starting his own truck line, Midwest Express Corporation and Greg Orscheln Transportation Company, which served the entire U.S. for over 25 years. He sold the business in 2007. Since then, Greg worked as a Management Consultant, Small Business Advocate, Business and Life Coach, Motivator, and was on the Board of the Tonganoxie, Kan., Chamber of Commerce. Most recently, he was an investor and advisor to "Just Call Cindy," which is a service company for seniors with the mission: "To assist seniors with respect, compassion and a heartfelt smile, so that they may be able to live and enjoy life independently." Greg's entire life was dedicated to serving others and spreading an abundance of love to everyone he met. Greg is survived by his wife, Susan Orscheln; four sons, Greg Orscheln, Michael (Eileen) Orscheln, Patrick Orscheln and Kevin Orscheln. A visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 13, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 5501 Monticello, Shawnee, Kan., followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Greg will be laid to rest at Resurrection Cemetery in Lenexa, Kan. Sorry I got your name wrong Susan. But I do remember meeting you that one time. Another great time was when I planned to meet Greg for a conference in Chicago. At the last minute we decided to arrive early that day so we could get to a Cub game at Wrigley Field. Greg took us to a bar called Sophies's where we got our tickets. Great day!

I did business with Greg and his transportation companies in the 1980's when I lived in Terre Haute IN. With Greg it was never just business, it seemed like you were "all in" with him and I considered him a mentor. Once when I was in Kansas City, I went to church with him and remember meeting you Karen. He gave me a book called the Joy of Living, which to this day I keep on my nightstand. I just happened to think of Greg today, so I googled him and learned that he had passed. Greg is one of the great ones I will never forget. I am sorry for your loss Karen, and also to the boys he spoke of so often.

My thoughts & prayers go out to Susan, Greg, Mike, Pat & Kevin & their families. Greg was an amazing man who gave me a chance to work for him when I didn't have a clue what a reefer or flatbed was. I came to love that job & will always be grateful for the experience. I learned a lot from Greg & will always remember his thoughtfulness, kindness & smile. RIP

I am Karen Orscheln's sister who is the mother of Greg, Mike, Patrick and Kevin Orscheln. I am writing to say the Powell family is very saddened by Greg's death. We have very fond memories of Greg for 28 years of being married to our sister Karen. I am so proud of the Orscheln boys and I know there Dad was also very proud of them.
Please accept my condolences. I also must say I have great memories of Greg's family. I loved going to Kansas City and I especially remember the routine at the Orscheln home with Mr. and Mrs. Orscheln, Greg, Antoinette, Janet, Carolyn and Mike with Karen and myself all getting ready for Sunday Church. It was like an unorganized fire drill. Great fun but we all made it on time and ready to bow our heads and pray.
Now I bow my head and pray for Greg.
