Ann Slagle Obituary

Ann K. Slagle, age 75, Overland Park, KS, made her final journey on March 2, 2006, at Overland Park Regional Hospital from congestive heart failure. Visitation with funeral services following will be 2 p.m., Sunday, at Newcomer's Chapel, at 11200 Metcalf, in Overland Park, KS. Burial will be Monday in the Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Fayette, MO. Pallbearers are Todd LaPorte, Troy LaPorte, Martin Luus, Terry Roth, Rex Steelman, and Robert Snoddy. Honorary pallbearers are John Ballard, Sam Wilhoit, Donald Coburn, and Jim Rich. Officiating at the funeral service will be Susan Wilson, Chaplain at Overland Park Regional; and at the burial service in Fayette will be Rev. Daniel Hilty of Linn Memorial Church. Ann was born February 10, 1931, in Fayette, MO, daughter of Milton M. and Kathryn P. Keller, who owned and operated a Buick automotive agency in Fayette for many years and preceded her in death. She married Robert L. Slagle on June 17, 1951, and he survives. Besides her husband, she leaves behind her daughter, Roberta A. (Bobbi) Slagle; her beloved dachshund, Duke; and her two dachshund granddogs, Max and Angel; as well as a host of close family friends and colleagues, all of whom will miss her dearly. Bob and Ann moved to Kansas City from Fayette in July 1955, where she worked at Burton's Jewelers in Ruskin Heights. After losing her job to the infamous Ruskin tornado in 1957, she worked as an assistant to optometrist Ken Magness, to ophthalmologist, Sam Kanter, and helped start practice of ophthalmologists William F. Case and W. Lee Murray. After retiring for a few years to help out her aging parents and in-laws, she started a new career at the Oasis Deli with the Legrotte family. Ann worked as Assistant Manager/Cashier at the Chartroose Caboose restaurant for almost 15 years and was much loved by the owners, her co-workers as well as many, many, happy customers. Ann lived for her family, her friends, and the Caboose. She dedicated all of her love and remarkable energy to helping others and consequently, touched many lives. (Arrangements: D.W. It was with great surprise and sorrow I learned of Ann's passing. I only knew Ann from brief five minutes snapshots each week when I delivered to her at Chartroose , but her smile and friendly greeting stayed with you for a long time. I will miss that feeling, and I pray for those who knew her even more closely and will truly have a void in their lives now. God Bless you, Ann. The folks at Fox Ridge Bakeries are praying for you.

I considered Ann to be my Buick buddy and always will. She always had a positive and friendly attitude when I saw her at the "Caboose." I'll miss her. My condolences to Bob and Bobbie.
