Brian Augustyn Obituary

Brian (Auggie) Augustyn passed away Sunday morning, October 5, 2003, in his home surrounded by his loving family and friends. Brian faced a long and difficult battle with cancer. He was an amazing inspiration to all as he fought with courage, dignity, grace, and most of all an incredible faith in God. Brian was born in Bellevue, NE, on November 30, 1957. He attended St. Mary's Grade School and Bellevue East High School. He excelled in academics, baseball, and basketball throughout his school years. He attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln where he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. He received a degree in Business Administration with Honors. He was the Associate Director for the Stewardship and Development Office at the Archdiocese of Kansas City, KS. Brian was a true steward of charitable works within his community. He was a founding member of the Catholic Foundation of Northeast Kansas and a member of the International Catholic Stewardship Conference. He was also a founding member of the Promise of Learning Foundation and was a strong advocate and supporter for the Angel Flight Organization. During the last year of his life, Brian graciously donated much of his time to Project Moses. He was passionate about spreading the message of God's Ten Commandments. Through this fledgling not-forprofit group, Brian worked to raise funds and lay the important groundwork for the future of the organization. Brian is survived by his wife Sue Day Augustyn as well as his two beautiful daughters, Rachael and Lisa. His mother, Lorraine Augustyn and siblings Sandi Jaworski, Tim Augustyn, Joyce Tierney, and Roger Augustyn also survive him, along with many in-laws, nieces, and nephews. His father Stephen Augustyn, brother Stephen Charles and his infant son Brian Jr. preceded him in death. Brian was an avid golfer and playing a round of golf with his buddies brought him great joy. Having grown up in Nebraska, he was a big Husker fan. He especially enjoyed his time with his family and many friends who loved him dearly, including his weekly meeting with his Cursillo brothers. Brian will be greatly missed by all those whose lives he touched. He will be remembered by his wonderful example of caring for others and for his awesome trust and faith in God. WE LOVE YOU BRIAN! There will be a visitation Wednesday, October 8 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church from 5-7 p.m. followed by the praying of the Holy Rosary. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 9 at Holy Spirit Church, located at 11300 W. 103rd St., Overland Park, KS. There will be no burial as Brian made an anatomical donation to the KU Medical Center. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The Promise of Learning Foundation, Angel Flight Organization and/or Project Moses. All contributions may be sent to 9300 W. 110th St., Suite 160, Overland Park, KS, 66210.

I knew Brian for just a short time while he worked at the chancery. We made a trip together to Baileyville to dedicate a new ballfield where he stood in for the archbishop. A great guy. My deepest condolences.

Brian was a dear friend for over thirty years. We'll all remember when Auggie and the gang from St. Mary's joined the "public" ranks at Mission. Sue, I'm so sorry for your loss. Rachel and Lisa - your dad was the best!
