Dick Boerger Obituary

Dick Gene Boerger

February 8, 1941 - February 9, 2024

Leawood, Kansas - Dick Gene Boerger, age 83, of Leawood, passed away on February 9th, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Dick was born on February 8th, 1941, to his parents Dietrich Phillip Heinrich Boerger and Helen Ann Kuhlman Boerger, at their home on the family farm south of Linn, Kansas. He attended Zion Lutheran Parochial and graduated from Linn High School in 1959. Dick furthered his education at Washburn University, earning a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration.

It was in the summer of 1959 that Dick's life took a profound turn. On a blind date, he met Linda Taddiken Boerger, who became his beloved wife. They were married on November 19th, 1961, at the Methodist Church in Clifton, Kansas. Together, Dick and Linda embarked on a journey filled with love, adventure, and the joys of raising a family.

Dick's career with South Western Bell and AT&T took him and his family to various cities, including Topeka, Salina, Wichita, St. Louis, Dallas (three times), DC, Houston, and ultimately retiring in Leawood, Kansas. Throughout his professional life, Dick made lasting connections and left a positive impact on those he encountered.

In 1987, Dick and Linda's dream of building and reestablishing their roots in Kansas came true with the creation of the Quail Meadow Lodge. This special place became a haven for family, friends, and cherished memories. Dick enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, carpentry, entertaining, and fundraising while at the lodge. Countless joyful moments of fishing derbies, ballgames, Easter egg hunts, picnics, and barbecues were shared with loved ones at Quail Meadow Lodge.

Dick lived life with a true passion and was a friend, husband, father, and grandfather in every sense of the word. He served as a role model, offering unwavering support, a listening ear, and sound advice to all who sought his guidance. He was a true patriot with a deep respect of our veterans and had a profound love of our nation. His legendary sense of humor brought joy to countless lives. Dick's love for golfing, fishing, and hunting was infectious, and he passed on these passions to his children and grandchildren.

Dick Boerger was preceded in death by his daughter Cynthia Boerger Banks, his grandson Frederick Allen Boerger, his brother-in-law Myrl Merritt, his sister-in-law Dixie Rae Mauch, and his parents, Dick and Helen Boerger. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Linda, their children Jeffrey (Beth) Boerger and Bradley (Christina) Boerger, his son-in-law Todd Banks, and his grandchildren Andy Banks, Maggie Banks, Ben Boerger, Charles Boerger, Jake Boerger, and Kate Boerger.

A first memorial service will be held on Friday, February 16th, at 10 am at the Zion Lutheran Church in Linn, KS. The burial will take place at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, also in Linn, KS.
