DOROTHY COHEE Obituary

Dorothy Jean Cohee (nee Young) died peacefully at the home of her daughter, Regina Cohee O'Brien, on Wednesday, June 22, 2016, in Smithville, Mo., at the age of 91. Dorothy is survived by daughter, Regina, son- in-law, Kevin O'Brien, grandson, Thomas Jacob O'Brien, granddaughter-in-law, Amber Lee ("Kitty") O'Brien, granddaughter, Stephanie Brown, great- granddaughter, Erin Brown, grandson-in-law, Jason Brown, great-grandson, Liam O'Brien and great-granddaughters, Aislinn and Bevan O'Brien. She was preceded in death by parents and siblings, Lawrence Young and Marjorie Morris, husband, Keith and son, Larry, both of Kansas City, Mo., and grandson, 2nd Lieutenant Jeromey O'Brien of Mountain Home, Idaho. Dorothy was born to Elmer and Lollie Young on Jan. 11, 1925, in Kansas City. She graduated from Northeast High School and married Keith Edward ("Speedy") Cohee on July 18, 1942, after a courtship of four weeks. After her husband Keith died in 1997, Dorothy continued a food ministry to the poor in the inner city until her physical limitations made it impossible. She was a member of Metro Church in Kansas City for many years but when she could no longer live alone she began attending services at Family Worship Center in Smithville with her daughter and son-in-law. Dorothy would consider her greatest accomplishment the "surrogate" children she gathered, beyond those her own children married. She will be sorely missed not only by her blood relatives, but by the large family she lovingly adopted. The funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, June 25, at the Smithville Family Worship Center, 98 Stonebridge Lane, Smithville, MO 64089. It will be preceded by a visitation at 9:30 a.m. at the church. The reverends Nicholas Arnold and James Root will officiate. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Smithville Family Worship Center and/or Aseracare Hospice at 11020 Ambassador Drive Suite 305, Kansas City, MO 64153.

Mom, you were every day a blessing. What a wonderful, loving example you set for all of us. I still tell Regina I married her for the parents. You and Dad were walking miracles!
