I just noticed this.
Mr. Conyne was a friend. He taught me how to write.
That turned out to be pretty important for me.
My condolences to the family.

Mr. Conyne was one of my favorite teachers at SMS and I always knew he was a teacher that genuinely cared about you as a person and as a student. I thought of him often on my path to becoming a teacher and was thrilled to run into him a few years ago on his way to bridge at the Leawood Community Center. What an amazing person and anyone who met him in life was better for having known him. Thank you for all you did in service and in education. You made a difference in this world.

He was a very positive and energetic person. A friend to everyone. He knew no strangers. We all can learn from people like him to keep a positive attitude no matter what! He will be missed very much! May he rest in peace!

Mr. Conyne was a wonderful teacher. In 7th grade, we learned how not to say "uh," how to deal with heckling, and how to speak contemporaneously, rather than by rote, by using only 7 words on a note card for a 30 minute speech. He told us that if you get stuck, just repeat what you just said, and the audience will consider it wise emphasis. Thank you, Mr. Conyne, for your service to your country and community, and for teaching us how to communicate authentically and confidently.

Mr. Coyne
Was one of the few teachers that made a difference in students lives. He made a huge difference in mine.I was just explaining to my wife what a great teacher he was to many (01/21/2019). The reason Mr. Coyne came up in conversation was quite funny. We have a local newscaster who had a terrible problem with audible pauses. This newscaster would not use the common audible pause such as, "Ahhhh" or "Hmmm", but would say, "But Hey" a plethora of times. I emailed the newscaster and bought this to his attention. We noticed he has not use the audible pause since then. If you had Mr. Coyne you would know that he hated audible pauses and his use of the old "FOLGERS" can would strike fear in you before you started your speech. I miss him. I was on the debate team in high school and in college. Yours Truly, Dan Lucas

Mr. Conyne was my English teacher in 1988 at Shawnee Mission South. He remains one of my favorite teachers and I still think about him often for lessons he taught that were definitely not in the English curriculum. I wasn't an easy student but he was patient and supportive even when he was being firm. He was a proud Marine and some of his stories influenced my later decision to join the military. He was also proud to live in Peculiar, MO and he told us all the time.Mr. Conyne warned us at the beginning of the year that he was a polio survivor but he didn't use any walking aids and that sometimes he falls down. I was behind him going down the stairs one day and he tumbled down a few. Before I could even try to help him up, he was on his feet with a smile. He said sometimes you fall down but you have to get back up and keep going. Cliche, but from a former combat Marine with polio, it carries a lot of weight. When I think of Mr. Conyne, that's what I think of most. My thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Conyne's family and friends. May his memory be eternal.

I loved you cousin Eldon you will be greatly missed. You always had a smile on your face and friendly smile and great dresser. I wouldn't have been here if you weren't there on Mom and Dads first date. I will always remember that story you always told.
Sorry for your loss Rodney.

Please accept my condolences. Know that the God of all comfort feels your pain and sorrow. Isaiah 61:1,2 reads: He sent me (Jesus Christ) to bind up the broken-hearted... to comfort all who mourn . May you all also find comfort in those words.

Mr. Conyne was a memorable teacher. I have a clear memory of him hitting the rusty coffee can, with his mechanical pencil, when I said "uh" in the middle of giving a speech. RIP.

Mr. Conyne was a very good friend at Broadmoor Jr. High. He helped me in tons of ways, both on the job and in personal life. We talked a lot in his classroom and office after school hours. Me being a custodian of the school, I really enjoyed talking and learning from him, and working for him.
