Emmanuel Boyd Obituary

Emmanuel Darius Boyd, 24, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away in San Antonio, Texas on November 19, 2008. He was born to Mercurvus and LaTonya Boyd on September 16, 1984. At age 4, he was introduced to the world of classical violin and piano and it was love at first sight! For the next 15 years, he studied classical music. He later added jazz interpretation and composition. Homeschooled with 7 siblings, he was a gifted student. Emmanuel accepted Christ as a child on his own. He often said that he was wrestled by God. He was a member of the Youth Symphony of Kansas City. He enjoyed writing, art, acting, photography, and was a competitive swimmer. But nothing on earth moved him like the sound of musical instruments. He often said that the music he heard in his head never stopped. He later entered the UMKC Conservatory of Music at age 16. In 2002, he joined the US Air Force and was trained in lab science, radiology, and medics. In 2007, he volunteered for duty in Iraq and returned safely in June 2008. Emmanuel leaves to mourn his death and cherish his memory his daughter, Ella Jade and her mother, Amy Burton of Herndon, VA; his parents, Mercurvus and LaTonya Boyd of Kansas City, MO; 4 sisters, Mercy Boyd of San Diego, CA; Hope Jolly (Jason) of Kansas City, MO; Grace Boyd of Laurel, MD; Joy Boyd of Kansas City MO; 3 brothers, Nathaniel Boyd, Benjamin Boyd, and Ezra Boyd of Kansas City, MO; his Air Force family of Brooks City Base and Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, TX, and a host of family and friends. Services to be held Tues., Nov. 25, 11 a.m., MidTown Baptist Temple, 3953 Walnut, KC, MO. Visitation is 9-11 a.m. Military Honor Interment Wed, Nov. 26, 11 a.m. in Higginsville, MO.

Dearest Boyd Family,
Although we only met once (at Emmanuel's funeral) I feel a very close bond with your family. I was dating Emmanuel while he was in Iraq, my name is Michele Brown. He spoke lovingly of your entire family often throughout that time. I didn't get the chance I would have liked to talk and share more with you about how big of a blessing he was in my life, as i know he was in yours. Now that he is gone in body it is his spirit that stays with me, with us...the people who really knew and loved him.
I have some video's and pictures that he sent me while he was in Iraq that I would love to share with you and his Daughter;Ella, which he talked about with such love and adoration. Please excuse my tardiness in getting in touch with you, this past year has been full of trials for me in his passing. My hope is that through sharing stories, pictures and our love of Emmanuel it will help all of our hearts begin to heal.
I pray this message finds you all well and strong in the LORD. May GOD bless each and everyone of you for all your days.

And to Emmanuel, you will forever be in my heart. I love you and miss you everyday. Until we meet again.

Manny was a very good friend of mine. I met him through my high school friend, our mutual friend, Desmond Fahie. I always admired Manny for his many talents and his drive. I find little memories of him almost on a daily basis and my heart is heavy with sorrow for your, all of our, loss. Your son shined a light in my life that I will never fully be able to put into words. He was a cherished and dear friend to me and many others here in san antonio. He is deeply missed.

Dear Boyd family,
I had the honor of knowing Manny for a short time when he played with Plan B in Mississippi. He was a very special young man with an incredible gift for music. The world will be a little less bright now. But as I read the comments from all over the country, it strikes me how many people he touched in his short life. What a testimony!

Manny was optimistic, loving, driven, but more importantly, a truly genuine person and proud daddy. Although I had only known Manny for a short period of time while in Iraq, he shared many great stories and helped us to stay positive. May the Boyd Family please accept my most sincere condolences. God bless.

My Dearest Boyds: How precious to read of the deep affection held for Emmanuel.....didn't even know he was "Manny!" Made in God's image, and with the characteristic attenion and finesse of Jesus, I believe your son loved others and served so well, and so brought glory to God. You invested your love in his life, and your very best as you trained, loved, and raised him. You have all made God bigger in our eyes. Emmanuel's life has been used by the Lord in ways beyond number!!! Thank you!

Dear Boyd family,
I am deeply hurt to hear that Manny is gone. I was just talking to him a few weeks ago when he came to help with the Kids First fest in MS. He drove all that way because he cared and wanted to help. I appreciated his willingness to do a tv interview with me.
I admired him as a fellow musician and songwriter who I felt had the talent to go to the top if he wanted. When he and I last talked, he spoke about how much he wanted to spend more time with his daughter. I hope she will grow to know that.

Manny was like my big brother (even thought I was the older of us) I had known Manny for a couple of years and whenever he was around there was never a dull moment. He was super intelligent and always had so much to teach, give and say. Being that he was an honest and whole-hearted person made it easy for us to get thru hard times and good. I will never forget the impact that he had on me and my family. Although I still can't believe he's gone my memories of him will remain forever. May the Boyd Family, friends and loved ones hold the faith and will to get thru the loss of an incredible friend, Airmen and father.

My deepest sympathy at your time of sorrow. Manny's funny jovial and at times mischevious ways were a welcomed diversion while we were in Iraq. A very smart individual who liked to teach others about the things he loved the most about his work. I missed him when we parted and my heart is saddened that our reunion will have to wait even more. I wish you peace and blessings during your sorrow.

Mr. & Mrs. Boyd,
I know the words I speak can not replace your baby boy. Manny was a true blessing from God. The talent that he held was untouchable, and in some cases people like me were jealous. I can't carry a tone, let along play an instrument. I will and do miss Manny terribly. May God cradle Manny and you guys in his precious hands. I pray for comfort and peace to be around you and loved ones. Manny I miss you so much! God Speed!

Let me be weighed on honest scales, that God may know my integrity.

Job 31:6

As humans we have many feelings. We get angry, depressed, happy, sad and even anxious. Job expressed and declared his feelings openly, so did Emmanuel. God is faithful and he understands even when we don't. Emmanuel had integrity. In like manner Emmanuel's life taught us to offer vulnerable obedience.

May God bless you in your time of loss Boyd Family, and our prayers are with you.

Mr. and Ms. Boyd,
This is truely a tragedy in many ways. I met Manny in Iraq and he was truely a wonderful person and an outstanding Air Force NCO. He did everything he could to the best of his ability and I grew very fond of him in the short time I was with him. Manny was a great man, friend, father, NCO and will always be remembered as a great person!

To the family and dear friends of Emmanuel: I pray that our Lord lift your spirits in this time of sorrow. May Manny's gifts and memories he shared be a beacon of light for those in darkness. It was my honor and privilege to work with Manny back at Brooks. Peace and may God bless you all!

November 25, 2008

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family now and forever more.

I knew Emmanuel for only a short period of time....but my life was changed for the better the moment he walked in my office and said "MSgt Hill? Hello, I'm SrA Boyd".

I had the honor and pleasure of supervising Manny when he first arrived at Brooks City-Base. There was never a dull moment when Manny was around! He constantly challenged me and kept me smiling.

I retired from the AF in 2007 and requested Manny sing the National Anthem at my retirement ceremony. He accepted my request, gave me a wink and told me he would do something "special" for me....and that he did!

Manny touched so many lives in such a special way....We are so blessed to have known him! Thank God and thank you for blessing us with such a special man!

As I sit here in disbelief that such a great individual is gone, I look back in the sort time that I knew him and smile. I met Manny in Iraq this year, although we had very spirited conversations, I very muched looked forward to our conversations and also our card games(many card games). He was some I respected and want to be like. Although our time was short he had made a lasting impression on me, and this news leaves me sadness in my heart. He used to come to my desk often to speak about the anticipated birth of his daughter.. He was so excited to become a father.. Although it had been months since I left San Antonio, it still feels like yesterday the last time I saw his face. He was an awesome young man and myself and the rest of his military family will miss him greatly. I pray that God grant you all peace and understanding behind this tragic loss.
