Francis Hogarty Obituary

Francis "Joe" Hogarty
March 9, 1927 - May 3, 2022
Mission, Kansas - Joe Hogarty passed away peacefully at the age of 95 on May 3, 2022 with his family by side. Joe was a storyteller, bringing laughter and joy to every occasion.
Joe was born in Brooklyn, NY to Florence and Frank Hogarty. After earning his Bachelors degree from St. John's University, he served in the US Army and was stationed at Fort Dix, NJ and Fort Lewis, WA. He met his wife Claire on a New York tennis court when he 'accidentally' hit a ball in her direction. Joe had great aim - he and Claire married in 1952.
A consummate salesman, Joe retired as a Vice President of Johns-Manville Corp in 1983 and joined his daughter, Kathy, in their family business, Hogarty & Associates. He thoroughly enjoyed working for over 60 years. He was admired and well liked by his customers.
Joe was a devoted family man with a generous spirit and a love of jazz. For many years, he and his wife Claire could be found at The Phoenix, Cafe Trio and other Kansas City social spots enjoying friends. Joe was quick to make friends and had a knack for not forgetting faces.
He is survived by his wife, Claire, their daughters Kathy, Maureen and her husband Ralph Befort, Colleen and her husband Charlie Troppito, and son, Sean. He is also survived by granddaughters Erin and husband Dan Smith, Emily and husband Matt Carmitchel, and his great-grandchildren Lyla, Madeline, Luke and Jack.
He will be remembered for his incredible generosity, delighting his grandchildren with delicious blueberry pancakes, loving his great grandkids and for brightening every family gathering with his smile, stories and style.
The family would like to invite friends to a reception for Joe on Sunday, May 15th from 3 to 6 p.m. at Mission Square 6220 Martway, Mission KS, 66202.
Donations in Joe's name may be made to the charity of your choice.

Kathy - We are saddened to hear of the loss of your dad. Joe was a great man and phenomenal friend of HTK and our architects. His knowledge of the roofing industry and willingness to mentor the profession was unparalleled. His warm friendship is missed in our offices. He truly lived a great life and set high standards for all to follow. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time.
