So hard to believe it has already been 11 years. I swear I bring you up in a conversation at least once a week to someone. You had such an impact on my family and my career. I will be forever grateful for our friendship and the time we worked together. You truly were such an inspiration to so many. Definitely a life taken too soon.

I am shocked to learn of this today. I wondered why he hadn't called me for a while. He used to come down to my Employer Health office at Trinity Lutheran Hospital in the 90s and would spend an hour each week talking to me. We were a Mutual Admiration Society. He used to tell me that he planned to retire in South America. Occasionally, he called me after the 90s in the past few years to see how I was doing. He was kind, very intelligent and had a dry sense of humor. He attended Village Presbyterian Church for years. His faith was an important part of his life. We lost touch after 2008 when my mom died and I had some severe stresses in my life. To his brothers: my deepest condolences.

I am so very sorry to hear of Dr. Baker's passing. He had such a beautiful, kind, and compassionate soul. He was one of kind. I admired and respected his attention to detail and always felt that I was in the best of hands. His bedside manner, interests and our conversations about my job in the Airline industry were always interesting and fun! I'm so sorry to hear this.

Farewell Dr. Baker!

I was impressed with the man, Gary Baker, after attending an education seminar for my education units as a physical therapist assistant. Gary was one of my first seminars. He was so down to earth, it was like your friend giving you some wonderful pointers to continue your work in a better way.
When my college age daughter broke her thumb joint playing college volleyball her senior year, Dr. Baker "fixed" her up so she could finish out her last year. She never had a minutes problem with it after that, and coached VB for many years afterwards till her death in 2012.
I'm sure Anna and her husband will greet you with open arms to welcome you to paradise, and thank you properly for what you did.
I will never forget your williness to have conversations with us as if you had no one else to see, or no one else to treat. I loved the story you told Anna and I about becoming an engineer, and than just deciding you didn't like it anymore and wanted to become a Dr. I loved it when you answered the phone to set up appts.,met us at the front desk to check us in or do anything else an office person would do. I remember telling you that I'd never seen another Dr. answer the phone or check a patient in or out, and he answered, "they need a break sometime"!
Bless you and farewell Dr. Baker, you are one of a kind!

Regards and condolences to his family, Belle Welk

I am so sorry for his family as he must have been a great guy to all his family just like he was to all of his patients. God Bless you Dr. Baker.

I am shocked and saddened to learn of Dr Baker's passing. He was one of the nicest people I've ever met and was enormously helpful to my wife, always making extra time for us when we visited from out of town. He was an enormously gifted surgeon and we are grateful for all he has done for us and wish his family strength.

My wife and I were shocked to hear of the passing of Dr. Baker. We only found out yesterday when we went to his office for my wife's quarterly treatment. My wife had been his patient for over five years and, through two surgeries, we never ceased to marvel at his skill, compassion and kind demeanor. We had many interesting and intellectual discussions on a variety of topics during my wife's quarterly visits for treatment. He will be missed by all with whom he came in contact. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

I too feel blessed to have become a patient of Dr. Baker in January this year. I had been treated ineffectively a dermatologist for skin lesions that would not heal. Doctor Baker ordered a biopsy and identified my skin lesions as precancerous and set a plan of action in place. Doctor Baker was a brilliant surgeon and outstanding doctor who so generously gave his time and knowledge to so many. He cannot be replaced. I was shocked to hear of his untimely death, and deeply sadden by his passing. I send my deepest condolences to his family and friends.

I am in complete shock. Dr. Baker was an extremely skilled and conscientious surgeon and probably one of the last Dr's in this town to truly care. He shared stories of supervising surgery Residents as KU, his dislike of TV, and preference for listening to radio programs and working on antique cars. A true original who I know will be very missed by his friends, family and patients. From engineering to surgery he was exceptional and I feel very blessed to have known him. My deepest condolences to his family.

I am in shock over the sudden death of Dr. Baker. I worked with him at SCJC & respected his kindness toward his pt's, but also the great way he treated the nurses & the kind things he did for us. We always talked about his cat & the funny stories he had about him. RIP Dr. Baker

To the family of Dr. Baker,

I was given the joy of having some wrist surgery done by Dr. Baker and only have known him for less than one year -- BUT . . . he was the kindest and gentlest person -- and surely the most Christian. He had such compassion and such a gift for surgery; his work was flawless. I am just so surprised and shocked. He was such a gift from God.

Blessings and care to his family,
Jane (and George) Bocox

There are no words that can express how deeply saddened I am by Dr. Baker's passing. I worked for Dr. Baker doing his medical transcription. He was the kindest man that I have ever worked for and he became a friend to me and my family. We shared many conversations when I picked up and delivered dictation. He cared so deeply for his patients and went above and beyond what other doctors did...always there when people needed to see him, even opening his office on weekends to provide the care that people sought. We talked at length about his plans for when he retired...wanting to get out of the Kansas cold and retiring to Florida. He loved his cat and his cars! I am going to miss my friend...may you rest in peace Dr. Baker.

Saddened by this news as Gary and his family have had a special place in my heart. Serving as pastor for this family has given me a snapshot into lives led serving their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. May Gary's legacy as a doctor and his servathood serve as an example for many. My Christian compassion goes out to his family.

I grew up on South 18th street with Gary and his brothers and went to Castelar grade school. He and his family moved and I lost contact with them. On ocasion I would see his mom and dad at various funerals I worked over the years. From what I read he must have been a great doctor and surgeon that really loved his patients. Back then the teachers were just like family to all of us and pushed to get the best academics out of all of us. I would get an update on the Baker family from their uncle Hank who was a Battilion Chief on the Omaha Fire Department rescue squad. Hank was one of three that started the service in the 30's. Rest in peace Gary your earned it.
