James Stigall Obituary

James F. Stigall of Kansas City, Mo., went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 24, 2007, at The Kansas City Hospice House. A celebration of Jim's life will be held at Colonial Presbyterian Church, 95th and Wornall Road, Kansas City, Mo., on Monday, January 29, 2007. Jim was the only child of Minnie and Frank Stigall. He was born in Kansas City, Mo., and graduated from Southeast High School. Jim attended Baker University and then served proudly as a United States Marine from September 1946 to September 1948. After returning from the military, Jim attended the University of Kansas, where he received a bachelor's degree in art in 1951. Despite the protests of family members who attended the University of Missouri, Jim remained a loyal Jayhawk for his entire life and enjoyed rooting the Jayhawks to victory in basketball and football. After graduation from KU, Jim worked at Aetna Insurance Company for several years to support his young family. During this same time, Jim attended law school at night at the University of Missouri- Kansas City, where he received his JD Degree in Law in 1957. Jim was admitted to practice law in Missouri on August 31, 1957, where he remained a member in good standing of the Missouri Bar and the American Bar Association throughout his life. In addition to a long career in private law practice in the Kansas City area, Jim served as a Jackson County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney from 1970 to 1982. Jim is survived by his wife Pat; two sons, Jay and Jeff; his daughter-in-law Sandy; eight grandchildren, Travis McDonald, Tucker McDonald, James Stigall, Jacque Stigall, Jessica Stigall, Jenna Stigall, John Stigall, and Julia Stigall, and one great grandchild Trace McDonald. Jim was preceded in death by his daughter Jill Stigall McDonald. Jim was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed art, time with family and friends, and spending time at the family's cabin at the Lake of the Ozarks. Jim lived a fulfilling life that was centered on God, his love of family, community and his work. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed. A memorial visitation will be held on Monday, January 29, 2007, at 2 p.m., at Colonial Presbyterian Church, 95th and Wornall, Kansas City, Mo., with the memorial service following at 3 p.m. at the church. Contributions in memory of James F. Stigall may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation of the Heartland, 7800 Foster, Overland Park, KS 66204-2955. Arrangements: Mt. Moriah & Freeman, (816) 9422004.

Dear Pat and family:
When Clair McCaskill gave Jill's eulogy I remember her referring to Jim as the "Redwood" in Jill's life. He truly was a big man in more than just stature - he was quiet, caring, friendly and very very talented. We have several things in our homes that were created by Jim (with Pat's urging) and they will always serve to remind of us of him in the future. We are sorry for all of you in your loss but rejoice for Jim that he is now free of all infirmities. We are so sorry we can't be there for the funeral but will be thinking about you. Love, Jane and Dennis Taylor

Jeff and family,

Your dad was one of a kind, and was a delight to work with since 1991, when I first shared space with the "Kuraner & Schwegler" firm. He was an excellent lawyer, and a proud father, so proud to work with his son. So sorry for your loss but so grateful for his gain, Eternal Life in Christ. Praying for God's comfort and blessing on you and your dear family.

What a beautifully written tribute to Jim. You certainly have been a loving, caring wife, Pat, and I know you have had supportive children. God bless you and your family. I'm sorry I can't be in attendance Monday. Hugs, Helen

Pat, Jeff, Jay & Families: I was so sorry to hear of Jim's passing and my prayers are with all of you. He was a great presence in this life - a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. I feel fortunate that our two families are linked and we have celebrated some wonderful times together.
