Jane Siebert Obituary

Jane Siebert passed on peacefully in her sleep Saturday, September 16, 2006, at Freedom Pointe of Overland Park. Jane was born August 22, 1924 in Enid, OK. She joined the U.S. Navy as a WAVE in 1943, attended boot camp at Hunter College and Aviation Metalsmith School at Naval Air Technical Training Center, Norman, OK. She was stationed at Los Alamitos and North Island, CA. She worked on flight lines, in the hangers and in A&R shops, where she was trained in squadron maintenance operations and achieved Aviation Metalsmith 2nd Class. Of the WAVES she wrote, "We wore dungarees to work every day (or night) and had the dirtiest jobs, but considered our duty the best in the Navy." She married Navy pilot Lt. Lee Siebert, USNR. They settled in Kansas City and founded United Marine Company. Jane was a loving mother, an avid reader, talented seamstress, and enjoyed gardening. She will be deeply missed. She was preceded in death by her husband and a son, Steven Siebert. Survivors include daughters Karen Staley of Leawood, KS, and Lin Breeden of Overland Park, KS; son Terry Siebert of Overland Park, KS; grandchildren Eric and Sara Staley, Wesley, Nickolas and Ashley Siebert. Funeral services will be Thursday, September 21st, 11 a.m. at McGilley State Line Chapel, 12301 State Line Road, Kansas City, MO, with burial following at Corinth Cemetery. Visitation is Wednesday, September 20th, from 6 to 8 p.m., at McGilley State Line Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to City Union Mission or Disabled American Veterans. Arrangements: McGilley State Line Chapel (816-942-6180).
